School Was on Lockdown
I went to pick up my two boys today and the teacher came out to tell us the kids were going out another door and we should go get them ,I didnt think anything of it.My older son told me they hadnt been outside today and they saw alot of police near and in the school today.Turns out they were on lockdown all day because a couple of 6 year olds though they saw a man with a gun walking down the street near the school. They searched and nothing was found. My dh and I were watching the story on the news and tears were coming. It scares me to death to think of what could happen to our kids in school these days.I hugged them a little harder and longer tonight .It also bugs me that none of the teachers would tell any of the parents what had happened,we had to see it on the news

In the past two days we have had 4 different area schools on lock down because of either men in the parking lot with a gun or a student on school grounds with one. It is a scary world we live in now.
I am so glad your boys are ok and nothing came of it.DD (19)

I am glad they are ok too. My DD came home and told me they have been on lock down 3 times lately and she doesn't know why. That is kind of scary too.

Scary times indeed! My 13 yr. old dd goes to a private christian school in a small town in the next county, and I questioned the security there cause it seems so relaxed. I was introduced to four plain clothes off duty police officers who the school hires to patrol the school at all times while the school is open. Two patrol outside the school and the other two patrol inside. That made me feel better.

We had the same issue. Our kids were on lockdown (in three different schools) twice this past week and NEVER heard anything from the school about it. I will be bringing up this issue at the next parent meeting.
At the very least they should send home a note explaining why they were on lockdown!!

Our schools have been on lock down all week and may continue to be on lock down for some time due to all the recent school shootings and two towns very close to us having threats made against them by students. Our schools posted signs on the door to inform all parents of the reason for the lock down and the parents are very happy to know this is being done because they feel that their children are safer with the doors locked than unlocked where anyone off the street is free to wander inside.

Thank God your children are ok. It really is a scary world we live in. I remember when I was in school, we were on lockdown twice. Once when I was in 1st or 2nd grade (an angry father in a nasty custody battle brought a gun to the school, and was going to try to take his daughter), and then again in high school, because a gun was found in a student's car. I had a death threat made against me when I was a junior by a freshman. He had a crush on me or something, and I was already dating my Dh (BF then). He threatened me and my Dh both. That was a scary time indeed.
