    Default Sofa slipcover?

Does anyone here have a slipcover on their sofa? Our sofa is so tired and worn-out looking, and we just can not afford to replace it. I was wondering whether I would be better off to buy a slipcover (they are around $60-75), or look for a replacement sofa at the Goodwill stores. I see decent looking (better than ours) sofas at the thrift stores for $75-100 quite often. I would want to steam clean any sofa I buy used, so that would add to the cost. Any opinions?

Actually I would say go look for a replacement sofa, NEVER EVER do those slipcovers go on and STAY ON like it shows in the picture, I had a slipcover on the sofa and loveseat and it looked nice until someone sat on it, then it messed up.

I say take that $60/$70 and buy a sofa at the thrift shop, you can probably get one for less than $40!

~I got my sofa brand new with tags at the Salvation Army for $130. Search the classified too. Many sofas and sofa sets go for $20-$50 around here. Of course, I like to sew so personally, I'd recover my sofa myself for $10 before I started shopping. Good luck!~

My sister recovered her sofa & loveseat with solid colored sheets, upholstry pins, and pvc pipe (stuffed behind the cushions to hold the cover down in the "cracks"). It looked pretty good when she was done and was very cheap.

I think if your sofa has good bones I would buy 2 slip covers and make cushion covers to keep it from wrinkling every time you sit on it. The pvc pipe will help too. Quite an investment but I think it would give you the best results.

I decided to order a slipcover from overstock.com after reading the reviews on every slipcover they sell. We do not own a truck, so picking a sofa up at the thrift shop would not have been easy. This is the cover I ordered: http://www.overstock.com/?page=proframe&prod_id=1532319

Mine is the dark green color. I really liked the sable, but they were out of that color. I am getting these cute throw pillows to go on the couch: http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2....ROD_ID=1891741 I

How cute. I like the slip cover too. I probably would have gone the route that Amy suggested though.

The thrift shops here are really high on furniture. I have seen prices of $200 on a sofa in the thrift shop. Unreal, I know. If you found one for $40 around here, it would probably smell like cat urine.

Craigslist is your friend I have seen exceptional buys on our local list. We sell a lot of stuff there, and I just purchased a (new) canvas wall tent for dh for his hunting trip....400.00. The one at Cabelas' was 1,300.00!

    Smile Cheap Slipcover Idea

Hi! I always had a wornout sofa when the kids were growing up. You could use 1 or 2 sheets (flat). I can get cheap sheets at our local thrift store. I always wanted to save old jeans and make a "jean " patchwork throw cover. My daughter found a nice sofa at Goodwill for around $50, if you go that route. If you get a chance to buy one my I suggest leather. That's what I've had for the past 8 yrs. I love it, all you have to do is wipe it off when it needs it.
