    Default Busy Day

Wow! This has been a busy day for me. I'm not done yet, just taking a long needed break. My dear hubby got a deer on Sat. Praise the Lord. But he pulled something in his back pulling it out of the woods. He always does his own butchering. Today he basically cut it into large roasts. I had and have to clean it all up and package it for the freezer.I really hate this job but I'm going to get it done. I cooked 1/2 of the liver with onions for our noon meal. All this meat will come in handy or the next year. He still can get other one in this season and 3 more during "gun" season. Not that we will use all that meat, seeing it's only the 2 of us now. Someone dropped off some clams the other day. We got 4 meals out of them. I also did 3 large loads of wash and hung them out. They are all folded and put away. Well I'd better get back to work. Ta, Ta for Now!

It must be bow season where you are now. Hubby is dying to have a few days off to bow hunt. We butcher our own deer as well, also any hogs he may kill. Alot of people don't eat the deer liver, but we do, smothered in onions, gravy with mashed potatoes. Man, that's good eating. We usually eat the backstrap first though. Do you wrap your meat in butcher paper, or do you use freezer bags? I prefer butcher paper myself. It seems to protect the meat from freezer burn better. When does your gun season start? Ours starts the end of this month.

Happy hunting, cooking & eating, LOL

That is great. Free meat is always so good. DH is not bowhunting but is anxiously awaiting gun season. He has been working on the deer lease for a couple of months now getting everything ready.
