Default Help! I need a birthday gift idea!

My MIL's birthday is next week! Does anyone have any ideas? She is diabetic and is not into knick knack items. We do not live in the same town, so gift cards to the grocery store are not feasible.
    thanks!

Yes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

How about finding out who her hair dresser is and calling them and see if they will do a gift card for her. Or how about the newspaper subscribtion to a paper in her town or close by. Or if she needs her windows washed, lawn raked, garage cleaned, see if you can hire someone in her area to do that or any other chore that she can not do. Or if she has a pet how about a vet GC or petsmart GC. Or how about a monetary donation to her local library in her name.

How about a gift card to Bath and Body Works? When ever I don't know what to give a female of any age this turns out to be a great gift.

How about a GC for a pedicure? Diabetics need to stay on top of their foot care, and a pedicure might be a good idea. . . just make sure it's a reputable place that is used to dealing with diabetics (my aunt had one trim a bunion too close and caused more problems that she started with).

A bottle of her favorite perfume?

A book by her favorite author?

What about a nice, plush throw to sit with while it's cold? I got one from a friend not long ago and I love that thing!

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

I am diabetic also and personally I will not walk anywhere without something on my feet. Good, soft houseshoes are one of my favorite things. I also like to get socks especially made for diabetics. They can be a little costly, around here they run about $7-$10 a pair, so I won't buy them for myself and they are always a nice gift to receive. There are also lots of good diabetic cookbooks and a subscription to Diabetic Cooking Magazine, if she likes to cook.Due to diabetics often times having dry skin, good lotions can be a nice gift as well. My mom will make me baskets of supplies sometimes too. Things like boxes of alcohol prep pads for when I do my shots (insurance and flex plan do not pay for these), glucose tablets, sugar free candy, small lotions, etc..
But, then there are times I wish everyone would not define me by my illness and I get tired of getting things related to being diabetic. Sometimes I wish for things like a nice warm pair of PJs, a new coffe cup with my kids picture on it, or a pretty vase filled with fresh flowers.
Good luck, I know you will come up with the perfect gift! Hope she has a happy birthday!!!!
