How do you scent your homes?
Do you use candles, potpourri? I'm looking for ways to keep my home smelling fresh! With one dog, one 6 year old, and two men it's hard to keep everything smelling fresh.

I use a variety of stuff. I find that potpourri doesn't work that well for me. I burn candles daily and incense a couple of times a week. I find that an incense that is a natural smell like cinnamon or strawberry is very light and pleasant. Sometimes I boil a pot on the stove containing orange peels, apple cores and some cinnamon and cloves. That makes a nice fragrance as well.
For really bad smells (I hate cooking smells after dinner) I use Febreeze. I also do a daily Febreeze spray on the upholstery.

I love candles, especially "Christmassy" scents like cinnamon. I also use Bath & Body Works Wallflowers (bought on sale of course). I find they're really effective, especially in places like the bathroom.

I light Yankee candles. I have about one per room and I light them at different times. I watch the Yankee Candle Company stores really carefully for their sales.

I'm a candle person also tart warmer. During the spring, summer and fall I keep all doors and windows open. Since we have a yard full of flowers there is always some scent being blown in. During the winter once it gets too cold to keep house all open I run a simmer pot on the back of the stove. I'm also a big mop and vaccum person. We also have 2 dogs one long haired german shepard and one short haired rottiweiler. Shephard is constantly leaving puppies everywhere so dust mopping is a daily thing by someone! We spray the head of the dust mop with a lemon scented spray to help with odors.

I used to be really big on the scented oil warmers that plug in the wall, but recently I've cut back (due to electricty use, the cost of the refills - usually I can get the warmers for free but the refills are $3.50! - and just because I wonder how many chemicals they give off and trying to make my home more environmentally friendly). I just started cleaning my linen closet and I have 5 different bases and two refills - wow!
I've always been a big candle person, and I've been burning more of them lately. I have a ton leftover from my last Candlemart Mystery Box order.
I do burn incense occasionally, but mostly as part of a meditation practise.Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

I am a Yankee Candle addict. I wait for the B1G1 sales and I am always getting coupons from them in the mail.

I also have used the Plug-Ins but feel they're a bit pricey so I've been cutting back. I air out my home on a regular basis by opening windows. I recently bought an electric candle warmer, I place a candle on top and turn it on. I prefer the candle warmer to lighting the wick as I'm always afraid of starting a fire in the house. The warmers are also said to extend the life of your candles. I placed some popourri in my closets several years ago and they still make my closets smell wonderful years later. Sometimes I use scented carpet powder when I vacuum.

I got the AirWick plug ins FREE so I use those and I stock up on refills when I have good coupons combined with a good sale.

I don't really like the artificial scents that they sell, but with the dogs, cats etc... I find protien and starch enzymes work really well for keeping odours out and super economical - I pay about 20$ per gallon which I water down 1part enzymes 5 parts water. Just spray it on the carpet and furniture (like you would with febreze) and it works like a charm without the chemicals in the air.

I love candles and burn them almost daily. I love Yankee candles. Right now Kohls is having a sale on candles for $4.99. I got a pumpkin cheesecake one and a birthday cake with my blow money. They also smell great.

We air the house out when the weather is warm, use Febreze, burn incense occasionally.
“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
