    Default Wacky weather

I am sitting here getting emails about Thanksgiving, and notices about Black Friday from their web site, and looking at my Mickey Mouse avatar, wondering what the #($& is up with our weather... It is 68 degrees out... Here in Oregon, it is usually in the 40's or 50's MAYBE.... Right now I could be planting and weeding all day and not be frozen.. When the weather man said that it was predicted to be a warmer, dryer winter in the NW I didn't know he meant spring weather.... Bring me some snow PLEASE!!!! Can't believe that I am ranting about NICE weather... LOLOL...

It is 68º here in North Texas also. It has been a lovely day, we got lots of rain and storms yesterday but today has been glorious. It is suppose to be the 80s on Wednesday. It is beautiful weather but it sure does not feel like it is November.

No, it doesn't feel like November. I'm in Northern California and its 79 right now. Usually at this time of year its around 50-60 and raining. I'm taking advantage of the weather and my day off and I'm washing all the blankets and comforters. I have been a laundry-washing fool today LOL. I've done 4 loads, there's blankets in both machines right now and I still have two more to go, I haven't done this much wash in one day in a long time.

Well girls I live a little higher up in Washington State and let me tell you we are having the worst rain storm in 10 years.......up to 9 inches will fall by tonight...........there are flood warnings all over the state and up where our mountain cabin is located, a man drove his car onto the soft bank of a river and it gave away sending him into the water in his car.....the elk hunters have all had to move their camps away from the river.....Crazy!!!!!!! but yes the temp is still around 60 degrees and they say warm and DRY??????

Here in NH we've had unseasonably cool temps, more rain than we need and wind!

Indeed the weather is nicer here this week than it has been i n a while. I like the warmer weather. You can have all the snow. I wouldn't miss it. We only had one snow storm last year and the rest of the time it was a decent winter. I didn't miss the snow at all.

I am in CA, and wish the clouds would come in! It was downright warm today, maybe mid 80's. Should be in the mid 70's!
I chalk it up to global warming.

WAKE UP PEOPLE, THIS IS CLIMATE CHANGE

DON'T ANY OF YOU REALISE HOW SERIOUS THIS IS????

Now that I"ve got that yelling out of my system, there was an emergency summit of all Australian states today on the fact that our nation is rapidly running out of water. One eminent scientist pointed out to the assembled pollies, including the Prime Minister, that what this MASSIVE continent is experiencing is not a "1 in 100 year drought......no no....its 1 in 1000 year drought"

    America....welcome to the future.

    WELLLLL.......

Now then, last night it began to down pour, and it hasn't stopped... Several creeks are on flood alert, and high winds (damaging) are expected for the southern coast of Oregon.. Me and my BIG mouth... Feeling a little more like November-but still too warm....

I have a hard time believing this is a result of what? Global warming? Is that what you're inferring? My understanding of global warming is that it's measured in increases of a degree or two per YEAR.

An unusually warm Fall isn't global warming, it's weather!! In my area, we get some funky trade winds that stir things up: El Nino and El Nina. Climate doesn't mean it's always going to fit "typical" or "average". Next summer might be unusually cool. So what then, we can all resume our gas-guzzling ways? I don't think so.

I will agree with you that our planet is in trouble, but a couple of months of warm weather aren't sending me into a panic. What, BTW, do you suggest we do about this?

I heard on the news last night that the Pacific Northwest had been caught in the "Pineapple Express", which happens every few years if not yearly.. It isn't totally unusual.... Here is a link explaining it...

Valerie you are a member of an australian permaculture based website, aren't you? correct me if I'm wrong...

I'm sure you've seen enough info in the media to form some opinion on this issue

As for my background, I am an environmental scientist (geologist originally by training), with nearly 20 years experience and can honestly say that my research indicates that this is the greatest crisis facing humanity in 45,000 years. It won't be tomorrow...it won't be next week...but in a decade life will be very different for most on this planet.

I've sold a large farm in the last year and now am developing a very small permaculture/organic farm in a completely different geographic area of Australia with a view of being sustainable and also linking up with like-minded inviduals in my local community, all of which share the same view. None of them are wackos. Some are scientists like me. Some are doctors, lawyers, home-schooled kids aged 18, stay at home moms worried about the rising cost of living, teachers....architects...builders...all sorts. My goal is to share my knowledge with those that want to listen....and exchange knowledge in return about what is happening. Its the first step in helping to attentuate the problem.

Of all the continents on this planet, Australia and Europe are already the worst affected by climate change.

New Orleans was a wakeup call for America. I watched a well known meterologist break down and cry today on national television when he recounted how nobody paid any attention to his warnings about New Orleans...and his devastation to see how many people suffered....meteologists are not renowned for any sort of "emotional instability"

Here are some ideas for ameriolating climate change (thank you to Al Gore)
