Default What would you do? (Baby Stuff)

Since we're going to be moving furniture and swapping rooms, I went through all of DS's baby stuff that we got from the shower this weekend. I have a ton of things that I don't need or want. I returned everything that came from Babies R Us since they take returns without a receipt (you get store credit - I can buy diapers, refills for the diaper genie, etc.).

Here's what I have - all of this is brand new in the original packaging (where applicable):

3 pack hooded towels - Circo Baby (we received 12 of these, I kept 6)
5 pack Gerber Side Snap Shirts 0-3 months (we received three of these, I'm using two of them and he's just about outgrown the ones I opened)
8 pack Gerber washcloths (we received 50 other washcloths that I'm keeping)
1 hooded towel - no tag
1 Precious Moments Bathset (hooded towel, washcloth, comb and brush)
    (2) 4 packs Winnie the Pooh washcloths
1 5-pack Carter's washcloths (we got four of these, and I'm keeping three)
1 Carter's bathrobe 0-9 months (we got two of the same bathrobe, I'm keeping one)
    (2) Carter's Blankets (we received 5 different oversized blankets, 3 normal sized blankets, and 24 receiving blankets that I'm keeping)
1 set Carter's Hat, Booties, bib that goes with the above blanket
    1 pair Carter's socks
1 Box of 10 pairs of socks (we received 50 pairs of socks that I'm keeping)
3 pack of Soothie Bottles (we ended up using a different bottle)
1 Fingertip toothbrush (we received three of these - I kept one)
1 Adapter for using Avent bottle with several different breast bumps (doesn't work with my pump, and I'm not using Avent bottles)
1 pack Gerber Cloth Diapers (I'm going to use a different kind)
1 "BabaBib" - its a big foam cushion that is roughly bib-shaped to hold a bottle (in case you're too lazy to hold the bottle while you're feeding the baby, I guess)

So here's my options that I've come up with so far:

    1. I have a friend due on 12/5. (I'm already planning on giving her the Winnie the Pooh washcloths since that's her nursery theme. I'm thinking of asking her if she wants anything else, but I don't know if she'll take anything else.

    2. I could Freecycle the items.

    3. I could sell them on eBay.

    4. I could try and sell them at the local baby consignment store.

I realize that I'm probably going to end up doing different things with different items, but I was just curious about everyone's opinion and what they'd do.

(PS - if anyone on here needs any of these, let me know)

    Sara,

My first thought would be to donate them to a woman's shelter or some place similar that could use baby items, then you could have the tax deduction as well as the knowledge of helping those in need.

Are you going to have anymore babies? You could just keep the stuff.
Or keep it and whenever you need a baby gift for somebody you will have it

I didn't get a shower this time, but last time, I got a ton of stuff I didn't want. I ended up freecycling it.....but here's another option...........is there a woman's shelter or crisis pregnancy center near you? I bet they could use that stuff.

Also, I''d keep a couple of things to re-gift for someone else in the future who is having a baby.

Me, personally, I wouldn't bother with trying to sell it on e-bay....but with a new baby, I'm lazy that way. LOL!

I say re-gift some, donate some, and consign some. Possibly ebay the biggest value items if you already do ebay.

I would save some really nice things for regifting. The rest I would bring to a local church--they have a "God's Baby Closet" where people who have nothing can get baby supplies.

I'd say try to return some of that to WalMart. The Gerber t-shirts, the Carter's blankets.... I'm pretty sure my WalMart sells those items. I had one of the Advent bottle converters, and I got it at Target. I also know Target sells the Soothies bottles- I was just looking at them a few weeks ago. Just take the stuff to WalMart/Target and tell them you received it as gifts... they should let you return without a receipt that way. They'll scan everything & if it wasn't from there, they'll just tell you that. I did that when my DD was born with several items & only one or two weren't returnable to WalMart-- they gave me a gift card with credit for the rest. Like you said, store credit is always good for diapers!

You could regift some or you could take them to a child's consignment shop and see if they will offer you store credit instead of cash.

However, I do want to say something and it's completely not to start drama, "1 "BabaBib" - its a big foam cushion that is roughly bib-shaped to hold a bottle (in case you're too lazy to hold the bottle while you're feeding the baby, I guess)". That statement is kind of judgemental. And again I'm not saying this to start drama or anything, but to offer you another viewpoint. My ds has went through a stage where he refused to let anyone feed him. The only way he would eat is if his bottle was propped. And from the propped stage, he has learned how to feed himself. Just as an f.y.i, you may want to rephrase it in the future, so that no one gets offended. Again--_I am not saying it to start drama! Just an opinion!

I'd be looking at future baby shower gifts to re-gift the nicest things, take the things that came from Walmart and/or Target back and get a gift card for there and ebay the other stuff or sell on consignment. If you couldn't make enough on either of those to make it worth your while then I'd donate to a local charity.

I had never heard of a baby not letting anyone feed him - guess I know now! Thanks for pointing this out to me. I guess a lot of baby things seem pretty silly until you have enough experience raising one, and then you know exactly how useful they can be.

I would say regift some items, sell the rest, ebay, here, whatever, and put that money towards something you'll want for him later...

I would either save it and regift it, sell it as a couple lots on ebay, or donate it to someone in need.
