Default Do you have a gas or electric oven?

Could I get some opinions? We currently have all electric stove/oven. We are switching out to gas in the spring (already plumbed in the house). We've been looking at gas cooktops w/convection oven (gas). However, they also make a duel fuel model, gas cooktop/electic oven....any input? I've never cooked with gas. They say the only difference is that gas is a dry heat, but electric is a moist heat? I do a fair amount of baking, but not bread.....
We are looking at the Bosch. We have a Whirlpool Gold, which I hate! so GE, Whirlpool, etc is out. I want something a little nicer, (but I won't go for the Wolf as dh desires) We also will not shop at Sears, so Kenmore is not an option.
    Thanks for any input

~My gas oven came with the house when we moved in 6 years ago, but growing up I've used both. From a tightwads perspective, gas is almost always cheaper to operate. That being said, I would LOVE to have a convection wall oven. Don't know if they make those in gas. I've always been successful baking with my gas oven and I bake ALOT!~

To be honest, I am clueless. I am terrified of having gas in my house so we have all electric. I have never cooked on gas at all. But my step-mom (one of the best cooks around) swears by cooking with gas. When she cooks at my house it does not turn out as good as it does when she cooks at home.

I love Gas.. it cooks more evenly and from a safety aspect, unlike an electric range, it is instant on, instant off.

I have an electric range/stove, we dont have gas here but I was talking to these people that weatherize your house and he said here in PA, electric is the cheapest but as for gas I am not sure how much better it is when it comes to cooking.

Gas is always best to cook with. It is also available when the electricity is out. Very helpful on cold winter days!

I have electric because I rent .. but would love to have gas again.

I have a gas oven and stove and I love it. I find it much easier to cook on than electric and my baking comes out fine. I also find it cheaper to use.

We had a gas stove/oven in our old apartment. It is nice that it has that instant on/instant off feature, you don't have to worry about burning yourself on the element because when the flame is gone, so is the heat. That being said, from a safety perspective, I prefer electric with small children.

I found no real difference in the cooking between gas and electric. It takes less time to cook on an electric stove and in an electric oven, and I think that unless you are an professional chef, the difference in your cooking will not be noticed. Another thing that I didn't really like about the gas stove, is that it isn't as easy to keep things on "low" heat. We didn't really have numbers on our stove (it was very old), so the flame was either on or off. If it was a big flame, it was on high, a little flame was low. I prefer the electric stove where you can put it on 2, 3, 4, etc, and know that you have it on the same level every time.
These are just my opinions from my own experience. Good luck with your shopping!

We have a Tappan Designer Series gas stove & oven. I love it. I've always had electric so I wasn't too keen on having gas. The last electric one we had was the glass top...HATED IT!
But the gas has won me over. No more waiting for the burner to warm up so I can use the stove top. I've also found that the gas oven heats up quicker than the electric ones too. It's much easier to clean my gas oven than it ever was to clean the electric one.

This is the closest to our range I could find. Ours is obviously a different model because it's about 5yrs old, the clock/timer part is on the right side rather than the center and we have the shiney metal drip pans, but otherwise it is the same:

For the same reason, with small children I prefer gas. They know that when the flame is on, it's hot. Unlike with an electric stove, unless the coil is red, it's hard to tell if it's still hot until it's too late.

The gas stoves of today do have numbered settings

Thanks everyone I was just wondering if it was worth the extra $$$ to go with duel fuel....I'm hoping to get one of the last '06 models at a discount. I think we'll go with full gas oven & cooktop.
YankeeMom, I had no idea Tappan still made appliances! My parents put those in their house when they built in '62.

Electric but I would prefer to have gas. I believe you can regulate the temperature better.
I do not enjoy cleaning the oven so the self cleaning is a plus for the electric.

What made you hate it? We have a gas stove that came with our house, but I've always wanted a glass top electric one.

I loved having a gas range, but when we bought our current house three years ago it was all electric. As it turns out, even though I think gas is easier to cook with, gas prices are through the roof, and now I'm thankful that we don't have gas bills on top of the electric bill every month.

I have tried electric but have always had gas. I prefer gas to the electric because I find it much easier to control the heat and the outcome of foods. I don't bake a lot, probably for the lack of counter top space, but I love gas for that too. I was considering electric for the new kitchen, but then I ended up getting my mom's gas stove when she moved and I love it. It has a self cleaning oven and love that feature alone. So, I guess you could say I am a gas girl.
