hello...again..#2!
Hi! I'm also not new but rarely post. I've got to get my butt in gear and get on top of this debt! The stress is starting to eat a hole in my stomach
I"m really hoping that you ladies can help show me the way . There is a wealth of information on these boards. I could read through your posts all day!

mentor needed
Thank you for all your warm welcomes.
As I was sitting on the side of the highway today waiting for a tow truck (timing belt came off, praying I didn't damage anything really expensive) I was feeling pretty discouraged. Don't get me wrong, I am extremely thankful to have my faith, a loving husband and a beautiful son. I also have a steady job, a roof over my head and enough food to eat. Things could be much worse. But..... I really need help getting a handle on my finances. I feel like I can't get started on my own. I need a mentor, or a village of mentors
...can someone give me some direction on where to start? Not a list of 100 things I could do or a bunch of info that really doesn't pertain to me, though I'm sure that would all be great advice... I really just need step 1 and step 2 for now. I"m guessing step 1 is to list my debts. When I've started this in the past, that's usually where I give up. Make a list, get frustrated and ignore the giant elephant sitting in the living room!
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer, Jaci

Hi and welcome! Yup, you guessed it--get it all down on paper now matter how ugly it is and start working toward those small victories. The ladies on here are wonderful and very helpful. When you feel like giving up remember that hole in your stomach.

Thank you Cricket! Good news on the truck..only $270 to repair, no major damage. I found the spreadsheet of our finances. Needs a little updating but I see clearly why I shoved it away last time!!! I have a huge problem too with DH not being on board with reducing debt. I"ll work on updating the spreadsheet and then hang it poster size in our kitchen so DH will be forced to look at it

You are not alone, I think that it why we are members of the village. We ( well most) can relate to the burden of stressing out over the finances. I do it all of the time. We have a lot of Murphy visits, go to Dave Ramsey's site it will help, then put your budget on paper, get a $1000 emergency fund, then start on the debt. Continue to get on this site daily(several times), like brushing your teeth, it REALLY does help to stay focused, and give you strength. The ideas here are wonderful, and the advice will encourage you. These people here are the best!!! Also, when you get some time, and I would try to find & go back through the threads and read other people's posts, it will help get you motivated, the debt will not go away until you begin the steps. Good luck.

I also am working the Dave Ramsey plan and it is working great for me. This past year I have paid off several thousand dollars in debt, I have a BEF of over $1600 (saving more than the $1000 since I am a single mom), and I am using the cash envelope system. This has really helped me so much. I would recommend TMMO. It has all the steps outlined. Best of luck with whatever plan you decide on!
