HELPPP!!! Aaack!!! LOL but seriously
I dodn't know where I should put this, so if this is not the right section for it, please feel free to move it with my apologies...
I just found a MOUSE in my house. Or, I should say, my CAT found the mouse. I was in the bathroom and my cat kept STARING at the bathroom closet. I opened the door, cat ran in and ran out with a MOUSE in his mouth. UGGGHHHHHHH I am so grossed out still.
My question is...what can I do, or use, to get rid of the mice (I'm sure that there are more...if there's one, there's usually more) that will be safe for my other pets? I have 3 cats and 1 dog. I don't want to use something that is going to poison my pets!
I am a Property Manager and live in one of my boss's houses. For other tenants we use those green Tomcat blocks, but I can't find anything definitive on whether they'll kill my pets or not. I just called my boss and asked if he'd prefer me to get MORE cats, or move to another house. LOL
Please, please tell me that someone can help me...I'm sitting here with the heebie-jeebies, lol.
My kids won't kiss the cat now. LOL

How about mousetraps? Put 'em where the kids/furbabies can't get to them but where you see droppings. Bait them with peanut butter and let DH deal with the disposal of the remains.
Good luck!

Oh! and look for holes inside of cabinets, closets, where mice can get in and pack the holes full of steel wool. You can get bags of it cheap at a hardware store. Mice can't chew through it.“When you get to the end of all the light you know

They also have those traps that are glue, super sticky! I would go with a mouse trap though, just to be on the safe sise.

I was hoping to stay away from traps..even the glue ones. My kids are bound to get into those even if they're hidden away somewhere...not to mention the serious ick factor

I'm doing some web searching (not coming up with much tho) for mice deterrents that are both safe for kids and pets and fairly natural. Any ideas?

Oh...and I forgot to mention....I did some peeking through that closet, as well as other closets and cabinets and I am not seeing any evidence of mice or mice droppings at all....YET...*yuck*

It could be that you don't have mice in your house, but your cat brought one in (thanks kitty!). Even with the ick factor, mousetraps are your safest bet. Your kids can't get under your stove or fridge which are the two places I've always found mouse droppings in any house I lived in (I think 'cause it's warm, hidden, and usually a crumb or two drops). btw...disposing of mousie carcasses is a 'blue' job as far as I'm concerned.

Here's a suggestion I got from my father that I used when I was in college.
Get a small bucket (I used my trashcan) and empty it out. Put something covered with peanut butter in the bottom so that the mouse can smell it, and position the bucket near something so that the mouse could climb up and get into the bucket. The mouse will go into the bucket after the peanut butter, but the walls will be too high and smooth for him to crawl out.
Then you just have to deal with a live mouse!Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

We live in the country and really had a problem at first with mice...but now with barn cats we don't have to much of a problem, except when they bring them to porch to show "mommy" their catch of the day. But I use mousetrap with either peanut butter or grape jelly on them...it's works everytime...so you were so grossed out, they are nasty little creatures..and you have to wash everything if they have been in a drawer or cabinet...
