Update on dh's fingers - surgery!!!
I am so po'd it isn't funny. When I took dh to emergency on Sat. the doctor never asked him if he could bend his fingers. He stitched and wrapped. Yesterday when I took him to the hospital to have his bandage replaced, our family doctor was there and was mortified that the emergency doctor hadn't asked BECAUSE he did cut through a tendon in his middle finger.
I had taken the kids to music lessons and I got a call at the library telling me to hurry home because we HAD to head into Winnipeg for him to have surgery last night. The doctor in Brandon could not do it because it had gone too long and so he needed to see a plastic surgeon and they only have one in Winnipeg.
We headed in yesterday afternoon and went straight to emergency because we had been told that he would have surgery as soon as we got there. They told us it would be an hour before he seen the surgeon, so the kids and I went and got a hotel room at $100 per night!!!! Dh said he would call me and let me know what was happening. At 1:30 a.m. he called to say he was now on stand by, they had forgotten him until 1:30 a.m. and he might not have his surgery until Friday!!!! Now how could they forget a patient, like give me a break. Dh is much too quiet, had that been me I would have been screaming to let them know I was there.
I am furious and they are going to get a letter. Not only did the emergency doctor screw up, he made no reports on dh's hand on Sat. Then the hospital in the city gives the hospital here the wrong information and forgets him for hours in a waiting room. We would not have even had to go in last night because there was NO SURGERY PLANNED as they told our physician.
I'm home now and dh sits in a hospital bed waiting until they decide to do surgery. Not only that, our family physician thinks it might even be too late to do anything.

Oh, CJ how awful! I had to go backwards to find out what happened initially, because I didn't know. How frightening. I hope the surgeon can repair the damage.

This gets even more maddening. Dh just called to tell me he isn't even having surgery at the hospital, he is having it at the Pam Am Clinic. He wouldn't have even had to go into the hospital, grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
He said to them, what do I do now. They said they'd keep him in the hospital overnight and then he could go to the clinic. He asked them how because they can't have any money on them in the hospital. Things get stolen like crazy there (there is a security guard on every wing). They said he'd have to get a taxi. He said, not going to happen. You guys made the mistake, you get me there!!!! Good for him, he finally spoke up.
He called our friends and they picked him up and he will stay there tonight and tomorrow night. I can't go into tomorrow because they are expecting 10 cms of snow and freezing rain. Hopefully by Fri. the weather will be a whole lot better.

When I was rushed to the hospital in October, they forgot my family in the waiting room and didn't bring them in until I asked if they were there.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

Gosh, this is really awful. I would be so upset. Sending up prayers for you and your husband.
Sometimes I wonder why hospitals do some of the dumb things they do. When I was in the hospital, the other girl in my room had surgery. The nurse helped her to the bathroom and told her not to get up until she got back. The nurse went off duty, leaving my roomie in the bathroom. She was in there for a half an hour. I called another nurse for her and when she didn't come, my roomie went back to bed herself, dragging her IV with her. I just couldn't believe it!
