Mattress suggestions needed
We just found out yesterday that DH will be getting a pretty nice Christmas bonus. My first thought was "Woo-Hoo! We can pay off the credit cards!" DH has a different idea. The first words out of his mouth were, "We are buying a new mattress!" I do agree that a new mattress would be wonderful. We bought the one we have about 6 yrs ago and we have both hated it since almost day one. It's extra firm and for some reason or another neither one of us can ever get comfortable on it. We are both waking up with aches & pains daily.
Anyway.... just looking for some suggestions for a really comfy mattress.

Your mattress is not that old. Have you considered buying a memory foam mattress cover to put on top of it to soften the extra firmness.
We bought our mattress a few years back at Sam's Club. The only problem there is not being able to try the mattress like in a mattress store and for us there is a problem getting it home since we no longer have a truck. The price was right though.
Good luck!

~I agree with auntie, I'd try an inexpensive pillow pad before a complete replacement. And unless you have 0% interest on your credit cards or plan to give yourselves this as a Christmas present, I'd pay down your debt. FYI, I have a pillow-top Simmons BeautyRest that is 6 years old. It is not a flippable mattress but it'll make it to 10 years. We liked it because it was firm and soft at the same time and didn't jiggle and move everytime we did. We payed $550 for a queen mattress and boxspring.~

We bought really inexpensive mattresses for our cabin bunk beds and they were really uncomfortable. We then purchased memory foam tops from Costco for about $90 each. They made a huge difference. So I would definitely try that first before you buy a new mattress. I think you'll find that it's all you really need.

We bought one of those Novaform (or something) memory foam mattresses from Costco, it came complete in a box on wheels. Its a terrific bed, we also alreayd had one of those memory foam toppers mentioned fomr Costco and use it on top as well. Talk about comfy.
We had the topper to extend the life of our mattress but the mattress had springs poking up and was just kaput lol
Good luck on your search, you do need a quality nights sleep.

We would have replaced our old queen mattress 3 years ago if not for the memory foam topper. When we built the new house though, hubby wanted a king bed, so we bought a king memory foam beautyrest to go with the new bed. We put our old queen set in the guest room and everyone that stays over comments on how well they sleep. I would buy a good memory foam topper since your mattress is really not that old. Your mattress sounds like our old queen, we would wake up every morning almost unable to get out of bed.
A good topper will make a world of difference and save you tons of money too. Good mattress sets are expensive!

My 2 cents is I will never buy a no turn mattress. We have one a Sealy I think and have a hump in the middle. Just my thoughts as last matress we had we had for like 18+ years, lol.

We have a Sealy Posturepedic matress with the pillow top on both sides. I love it, and no other bed I sleep in can compare! We paid about $700 for the mattress and box spring after taxes.

This is one subject I am not my usual frugal self in. Three years ago my husband and I splurged on a 3000 dollar mattress (Natures Rest, King Size) and we got zero financing for a year. Yes, it was very very expensive. However, my husband and I both have NEVER woken up with a crick in our necks or sore backs. It's so wonderful. I'm not saying it's for everyone, but for us, I would never get a different mattress. It has a 20 year warranty as opposed to the average ten year warranty of a typical mattress. Just my two cents. I've heard fantastic things about memory foam toppers. If you could get by with one of those for another few years, you'd be in a better place financially than my suggestion of spending a fortune on a mattress! Good luck whatever you decide to do. A mattress is a big investment.

If you can afford it I'd get a new one. You spend 1/3 of your life in bed after all
so might as well make the most of it.
Otherwise I heard memory toppers are good. In a magazine article, Brad Pitt even pushed getting cheap matteresses and then getting a very good foam topper. Whether he buys cheap mattereses though is another matter lol

We did this with a Temperpedic, 0% financing and all and I will never have a different mattress either. If the topper doesn't work (my husband uses one on his crappy mattress at work and it helps tremendously) I would invest in a good mattress. Temperpedic has a trial period and you only pay shipping. Rather pay a little to try it out than buy it outright and find out you hate it.

Bathany.... I have to say I agree with you. I am frugal in almost all areas except when it comes to large investments such as furniture, large kitchen appliances (stove, fridge, etc...) I want to buy the best we can afford so they will last and we don't have to turn around and buy new ones every couple of years. I feel the same way about a mattress. Our's was bought about 6 yrs ago and it sure wasn't cheap.... just the wrong one for us
DH and I are still deciding what to do.
