I don't drink it much, so I just wait until I can buy the instant for $1 a box, ten cents a packet. I get a couple and that usually sees me through the winter. But I would guess that if you use a lot, making it might be cheaper. I have seen a lot of recipes for the mix on line. You might check out allrecipes.com. They have user reviews of recipes which are helpful in sorting through them -- except for the folks who "review a recipe" saying it was great - they just substituted turkey for beef and garlic for cilantro and sage for rosemary and used milk instead of broth and, oh, added chilis and left out the nuts. So they made a totally different recipe!

It's cold here today - like everywhere - cocoa sounds good. May have to make some. I mostly just don't think of it. I'm a tea drinker and do that on auto pilot. Thanks for the idea!

Here is the recipe I use all of the time. My kids like it better that the packets.
8 Cups of nonfat dry milk
    1/4 tsp salt
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup unsweetend cocoa

Mix ingredients together thoroughly and store in airtight container.
To prepare, place 1/3 cup mix regular size cup .
Add hot or cold water to fill cup and stir.

    We like to add marshmallows.

We drink alot of hot cocoa in the winter, so it's cheaper to make my own. Look at forum called Holidays-Special Occasions-Celebrations and then look for the Gift in a Jar sub-forum. I posted my hot cocoa recipe there. It makes a big batch and it's really good.

I usually make my own too & the recipe I use is pretty much the same thing as domesticgal's. If the instant goes on sale for $1 & I have a coupon that will make it free, then I'll get it.
