I have blueberry plants that are 10 yrs old now. The first year I had very few berries. I was told that blueberries cross pollinate and to plant at least 2 varieties. So I did and now I have wonderful berries mid summer thru early fall. I cover my bushes to keep the birds out. Otherwise they eat every single berry.

    I have a funny story.
My father-in-law was so excited to buy me a blueberry bush when we moved in. We have a brook that runs behind our house but in the summer it mostly dries to a swampy area. Well he wanted to plant it far out so it would benefit from the wet soil down by the brook. He planted it so far out we could never find it once all the weeds grew up. I eventually found it and replanted it closer to civilization. We only get about 5 berries each season and my kids always joke that we could make one muffin and cut it into six pieces. Well my father-in-law passed away four years ago and it makes me smile everytime we get a blueberry. We cherish every one. I didnt know you needed more than one to cross pollinate so it is nice to find that out so now I will buy another one this spring.
