Default I'm going to fail an exam tomorrow..

And the worst part is, I don't even care! I've been studying my butt off for it for months and the information just won't stick! I think some of it has to do with pregnancy brain, but I'm fairly sure this is just something I'm not going to be able to learn. It will be the first course I've ever taken that I haven't got near the top of the class in.
I'm happy to have been able to take the course, but I have so many other things going on right now.
I found out I was pg about two days after I registered (after over a year of trying), and this coming Monday we're finding out the sex (if the baby cooperates) and Tuesday I'm FINALLY getting dd's results from her assessments, and the psychologist has already told me that most of her problems in school are more than likely due to her being gifted. On top of that, I got paid today, and they gave me a raise with retro pay from April, so not only can I afford groceries AND christmas presents, but I even managed to put money in savings. I just have way too much good stuff going on to feel bad about failing this course, and I feel bad about not feeling bad

Do NOT be down on yourself for not being more upset about doing poorly in the class. First of all, you might be just fine in the class. Secondly, after just barely scraping myself out of university with a degree (had some serious health issues that I kept ignoring) I recognize that there is much, much more to life than the marks you get in class. It's certainly nice to do well in school but years down the road, your kids and loved ones aren't going to care about how you did in the course, they will remember the time you spent providing for them and taking care of them.

Congratulate yourself on all the fantastic things you HAVE managed. You are a strong person to even be taking all these things on, so I want to let you know that you have at least one fan, in me.
I want to kill my mortgage! 192,391/197,370 (since July 2011)

I'm attempting to live by the principles of The Compact in 2012. Wish me luck!

    2012 Financial goals
    • make an extra $15k over and above any flying pay (1705/15000)
    • pay an extra $1750 off my mortgage (557/1750)
    • bring EF back to $10k - $3533 left to save
    • avoid lifestyle inflation
    • improve investment plan (change accounts) - *grumble grumble* Bank made a mistake, need to re-do paperwork

    The Financial Goals I've achieved:
increased RSP contribution to $300/mth, posted budget on FV for review, saved $1600 to go on vacation

    frugal lass,

Thanks so much! I feel silly for feeling bad about just not really caring whether I do well or not. Without sounding arrogant (and I know I'm going to) here's a list of things I've tried to do in my lifetime and after serious effort still cannot do:

    1. Origami
    2. Sketching
    3. Retain the information in this stupid course (medical terminology)

And that's pretty much it! I taught myself how to play piano at 8, bass at 11,and guitar at 14. Pretty much all of the hobbies/skills I've ever tried, I've been able to do so I just don't feel too bad when I finally decide it has to go on my list of things that just are not me..lol Everyone keeps telling me I'm just thinking negatively, but really, I'm not! There's a lot of things I'm really good at, and this just isn't one of them. Someone else can be good at it!

If anyone wants to share, I would love to see others' lists of things that completely elude you, or things you're really good at.

OK. Here goes. I have never been able to read a map...I know...everyone else says it's easy, but I just don't get it. I am terrible with directions. I can go somewhere and have no idea how to get back. So, there is something I am terrible at. Now for the brag...I am good at being a Mother. I don't want to sound arrogant either, but I know I have been a good Mother to my DDs.

Acknowledging your genuine skills is not bragging or arrogant. Everyone has talents and, well, "untalents."

I have a good sense of color and design and write well (though these posts hardly show it!). And I can read maps. In fact, don't tell me how to get someplace -- draw me a map if you want me to get there!

But... despite all my trying, my musical attempts (piano, organ) are laughable -- at best. I can usually manage to read a foreign language after studying it, but please, don't ever, ever expect me to say anything in it except, maybe "Good morning" or "Thank you." And my eyes glaze over when they try to explain yet another new thing about the computer system at work; I'm sure my technical co-workers think I have the intelligence of one of the lower plants -- on a good day.

Happily, we can all complement one another with the gifts we do have.

I'm another one that has problems reading maps and with directions. I'm the only person I personally know that has no internal compass whatsoever!
Nice to hear that I'm not the only one on the planet. I'll tell you how bad I am with this. I can go into a store in the mall and almost everytime when I exit I don't know which direction I came from. Now once I've driven myself somewhere and back I can get there again (if it's not too long before I go again that is), and I can look at a map and after much deliberation find where I am.... otherwise I'm pretty useless as a navigator.

Something I'm good at...hhhmmm....what would that be? Oh I know, I'm a great swim teacher I've taught several kids (who were afraid of the water) to swim with confidence. I'm also pretty good at 'getting things done' when there's a need for a ramrodder.

Malice - just another thing to keep in mind - when your done with school, no one is ever going to know or care how you did on one exam. In fact, after I graduated no one even asked my GPA! It certainly can be frustrating if you've always done well, but sometimes knowing the big picture helps. DH and I each have one "D" grade on our transcripts - and as we say around here, "D is for Done!"

Things I am not good at:
*I have no sense of rhythm, and a poor sense of pitch
*I have an extremely difficult time with abstract concepts (think symbolic logic, higher mathematics, etc)

    Things I am good at:
    *Arithmatic
    *Grammar
    *Anything related to envelopes
*Taking a lot of different pieces and putting them together (in a seeing the big picture kind of way)
Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

    Baby #2 due 5/30/2012
