    Default Gift Cards

I received a very nice gift card from my stepmother for Christmas. The problem is that it is at a store that I just don't need to spend any money at - a lot of knick-knacks and breakable things that just don't make sense during this season of my life. The money on that card could be better used towards other stores. Does anyone know of a gift card exchange site? How can I make sure my stepmother's gift is used, yet not bring anymore unnecessary clutter into the house (after yesterday we have plenty)?

    Thanks
    Amy

You may be able to trade it on here in the For Sale or Trade forum. Also www.mycoupons.com has a forum for that as well.

    Can you re-gift it?

    What store is it for?

If you can't trade or regift the gift card, maybe you could use it to buy gifts for others for birthdays or even Christmas next year? Just a thought.

Not sure if this is what you're wanting, but you could find out their return policy, and maybe buy a gift and then return it for cash?

Sorry, I did not want to step on any toes or do anything improper. So, I thought it best to be somewhat general.

It is a $50 Pier One gift card. With four young children in the house I am just not into a lot of knick-knacks and I have plenty of kitchen stuff. I appreciate the thought that it was given in, but right now could really use gift cards to places like target, walmart, grocery stores, etc. I have no birthdays coming up in the family before June, and could really use her gift - just in a different store.
If I can't trade it, my next thought is to just go buy something and return it - I hate the thought of the time & energy that will take.

    Thanks
    Amy

Now days, if you buy something and returen it they just give you a gift card for the amount, very few places will give you cash unless you pay cash and have the receipt.

We got some gift cards for our wedding that I sold on Ebay. I think they usually go for about 10% less there then the value on the card (meaning if it's a $50 gift card it will go for about $45). It worked for us, and at least we got cash out of the deal.

you could also look online at Pier One Kids - maybe you could use some bedding? or towels? something a little more practical?

I LOVE Pier One, but unfortunatly- I have no gift cards to trade - but I bet someone does!!

You could also try trading it on Craig's List in your area -

    Good Luck!

((also, I agree that chances are if you purchase something & return it, you may end up w/ another gift card & not the cash - but it may be worth calling the closest Pier One & asking - never hurts to ask))

Just another thought - I have a friend who bought her husband a Best Buy Gift Card a few years ago for Christmas, and he just returned the gift card and got cash (yes, this led to a big "discussion"). Maybe Pier One will let you do that?

I do like Pier One, but my MIL also got me a GC there for Christmas, and I probably don't need a second one.

I bet if you called Pier One and explained the situation they would probably take the gift card back and give you cash. I would definitely call first and save yourself the trip, if they won't though. Another option, bite the bullet and ask your stepmother for the receipt if the store won't take the card back without it. She hopefully would understand you appreciate the gift, just need something a little more practical. Good luck!

Just another thought - they also have a lot of wrapping paper, ribbons, and gift bags over there - probably in clearance. Maybe you could get some Christmas supplies for next year!
