OMG...I'm trying not to Freakout!!!
I just called my Banks 1-800# to get my balance and it saids I'm $59.00 negative in my Checking account!!! I'm shaking like crazy as I write this...I had my DH put over $5000.00 in the drop box on Friday...Dh told me don't worrie about it ...it just didn't get deposited in our account yet cause of the Holidays..I hope he's right! I told him I hope they remove all the overdrafts..I will call them as soon as they open..I could cry...the last time I was overdrawned was over 2 yrs ago when my Mom died I was not fuctioning and never thought about depositing our checks and obviously wasn't making that a priority...the Bank called me as they know I don't bounce checks..

With my bank, if you make a deposit of over 1000 at the ATM, they hold it for 1 week until they have had a chance to verify the deposit.
Hold tight and call the bank as soon as you get a chance, I'm sure that it's either because of the holidays, or because of the large sum that you deposited.personal loan 900/15000

at our bank if it is deposited after 2 it won't go on till the next day, and with all the holidays i bet it just isn't in there yet.

I do all my banking through our ATM(including deposits), and I am only credited with $500 immediately, all the rest is in "limbo". Given the holiday, I'd assume that the money is "there" just not in the computer yet.
If you do get overdraft charges, it couldn't hurt to show them your receipts and let them know that it was the holiday. Just be thankful the banks can't be closed AGAIN today for the Nat'l Day of Mourning!

What time was the deposit put in the drop box?
The bank I work for and bank with the cut off time is 6 p.m. However, our bank does not run our night deposits on Saturday, we wait until Monday because Saturday and Monday are the same business day. No work will get processed until Monday night. With the holidays, our night drops didn't get ran until Tuesday mornign and will be processed tonight.
Call your bank and see what's going on. Be very honest with them and they should be willing to work wiht yo.McD

Also with large checks, there may have been a hold placed on the check due to non-matching funds, non local check, amount of time to clear funds etc. If that is the case the bank will refund nsf fees (required by law) and a notice should be mailed to you.

That's why I keep every sinlge receipt I get from my bank and I never put anything in the night drop or in the atm to deposit. I don't like the possibility of a misunderstanding....

Thanks everyone...
MrsMcDowell... I use to always use my ATM to deposit cash along with my checks...And I always keep the reciept..But now I have my Dh deposit our checks.. 99% of the time when the bank is opened and I keep the cash..One thing I always do is write deposit only..There is no way I know of that anyone can try to cash them..Wife to Keith

Cool tip about writing DEPOSIT ONLY on your cheque - never thought of that!

Oh I completely agree, the A.T.M. is a VERY safe way to deposit $ and checks. The area where the checks are placed is completely locked and away from the public. I just don't like A.T.M.s Working at the bank and balancing the a.t.m, I've seen way to many instances of people not putting a check in the envelope, putting the wrong amount down etc. etc. I just won't ever use one.
Some places are very picky regarding the endorsement on the back. For some people, for deposit only, i've seen them returned back to people. Just a thought.McD
