    Default Life in rural MO

Well, here it is Wed. and we finally have electricity. We were without for 48 hours we were without phone lines too. We have an old fashioned plug in phone but the lines were down. I have said it before, and I'll say it again. Thank Heavens for Our Wood Stove!!! We didn't have a blower but we weren't freezing. The coldest it got in our house was 57*. With that we had no frozen pipes.
Our electric came back on about 7-8 last night. I called the Co-Op this morning and thanked them for all their hard work. The operator took my location and said she'd pass it on to the people who worked in my area. They get plenty of complaints at these kinds of times and few compliments. I knew when I saw the spotlights on the trees last night we weren't far from being restored.
So now I have the huge task of cleaning up our house. we had taken all the food out of the fridge and deep freeze and put it in boxes on the porch. the fridge has already been taken apart and deep cleaned. I think I'll just throw out old food in the freezer and clean it in the summer. That way I won't be bringing the temps down in the house.
I had filled every container we had with H2O so we would have it for usage here. Saturday we had a pretty good idea this we would lose power so we filled them all. Then I went to $ Gen. and bought some more. I have been hauling them into school everyday to re-fill. I kept a big kitty litter tub for flushing the toilet. We went to a friend's yesterday to shower.
All in all it was ok, but I know now what I need to have on hand for just such an emergency.
The ice is really beautiful, but a short drive around , ( even a walk on my own land) and you can see how damaging it really is.

I hope everyone else has faired well during this storm.

I forgot to ask you what you all ate for the days you had no power? I have often wondered what we would eat, other than sandwiches and cold cereal, if that happened to us.

We had made a couple big meals the days before and ate the leftovers heated up in the wood stove. I also bought some hot dogs and canned soup which we did the same to. The really hard part was doing the dishes. I have a campstove and heated H2O up on it outside and carted the water in. It took every container I'd had filled with water and 3 sinksloads full of dishes. We bought paper bowls, plates, and spoons that same day.

Glad you've got power once again. I live in southeast Missouri--we were lucky and just got rain. Stay safe.

We bought it new. With the pipes floor mat and blower it can to a little over $2000. It has paid for itself about 1 1/2 times in four years.
