omgosh what a day I've had!! (long)
You may want to get a refill on that coffee or tea and grab a snack before reading this.

Today has been a rotten day.
My computer was kaput this morning. So I spent about 1 1/2 hrs knitting waiting for Dave to call to help me. Not such a big deal, yet, right? Then I get a call from the nurse at L's school. L has a rash and sore throat and the nurse thinks she may have strep/scarlet fever. So I need to pick her up. I go out to Dave's car, and I brought out my keys by mistake. I then have to go back in the locked house to get Dave's keys. Keep in mind that it's 12º today.
Dave took my car to work, and unbeknownst to me he had his car keys too. So I'm tearing apart the house looking for his keys, I call him and get his voice mail. I tell him what's going on, and then I find a key that may be a spare (minivan key and his keys look the same). I start his car, put it in reverse---didn't want to wait too long to warm it up because he told me he needed gas. The car gets stuck in reverse. I wait a bit thinking that I'm warming up the car and then I try to put it in drive again--no luck. For some unknown reason, I decide to check the keys (maybe because when I used my keys earlier in Dave's car, it would go in the ignition but wouldn't do anything else) thinking that I may have a spare key to the minivan after all. I then discover that the car was only turned on accessories at that point. Don't have a clue how that happened.
So now the car is started and in drive, and I head toward L's school. Now there's a Mobil at the end of her school's street. I had the fuel light flashing, so I decided to get gas first and then pick her up--only because I was afraid I'd get stuck somewhere in that cold with Lauren in the car.
Oh it gets so much better...get ready to laugh. Before I tell you this part, you need to know that I've pumped gas exactly 3 times in my life. I didn't drive for a long time, and when I need gas I go to full serve, or Dave gets it for me. I also don't go far and only need to fill up maybe once a month.
So I pull up to get gas, and I put my credit card in the wrong spot! I put it in the place where the receipt comes out. So now it's jammed in there, and I can't get it out. So I think well I'll use another CC and maybe when it prints the receipt it will push out my card. I get the new CC in the RIGHT spot, and I go to pump the gas, and his gas cover/lid thingie is frozen shut!!!
I finally get that open, pump the gas, and then my receipt prints but doesn't push out the CC. Then Dave calls, and I tell him what's going on, and he starts laughing. NOT A GOOD TIME TO LAUGH at me!!! He tells me that it's not the end of the world
. Also keep in mind that none of this would have happened if he had gotten gas for his car and not taken mine to work today.
So he says he's on his way home with the keys and will pick up Lauren (not necessary because I'm right down the street at this point)--he didn't realize there was a spare on the key ring. I hang up with him, and I go inside the gas station and tell them that I'm a moron, and the woman goes out and unlocks the pump and gets my CC out.
I go pick up Lauren, and the nurse tells me that she thinks it's scarlet fever (strep throat with a rash) or Fifth's Disease, which is just a rash that sometimes appears a few weeks after someone has had a fever (which Lauren did during the first week in Jan. when she was out for 3 days with that cold/sickness thingie).
So I call to make an appt at the dr.s, and she asks if I can come in at 2:20...no problem, sure I say. I hang up, and then realize that Kathryn gets home at 2:30. So I had to reschedule the appt to 3:50. Oh, and Lauren has been holding her arm today too...I'm hoping that the dr. will tell her to put the sling back on for a while. I can't take another hospital visit. Especially one w/o Dave because of course he has a board meeting tonight and won't be home until 9 PM at the earliest!
I go to make lunch, and I burn my garlic bread. Then as I'm singing the song "Bad Day"--I kid you not, I really was singing that--I knock over my plate of pasta, and the plate breaks. Not one of my cheapo plates but my Pfaltzgraff grapevine plate
I think I should have stayed in bed today!
If you've made it this far, thank you. Pity party over.

Oh Michelle, I am sorry you are having such a bad day. I hope Lauren is ok and it is nothing serious. I am sorry, but I had to chuckle at the CC accident. I know it probably wasn't funny at the time, but it could have been worse.
I hope your day gets better.

You have had a bad day. I hope it gets better from here on out. BTW - I've done almost the same thing at the gas station. I never pump gas either, did not know how to get the gas door thing open and could not work the pump cc - poor old guy working there had to come do it all for me. So, I had to grin when I read about your experience.

Michelle, I know I shouldn't have grinned during parts of your story, but OMG, it definitely was a calamity day for you. I hope by the time that you are reading this, that things will be going much better and your DD is on her way to mending.
