Well that was a rude awaking
I lost my hard drive las Friday. I lost everything all my pictures all my email addresses. I had been thinking of backing everything up but of course I throught I had time. Nothing bad was going to happen. yeah right. I guess live and learn. I'll back everything up now. Lesson learned
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

I'm sorry you lost everything. Hopefully someone has copies of some of your pictures.
One of my New Year's resolutions was to get my files organized and backed up. After reading your post, I'm going to do it tonight. If something happened, I'd lose all of our pictures from the past 2 years, baby pictures from 2 kids, the pictures from our trip to England. I would be absolutely devastated.

Oh no, that's awful! I know well the sinking feeling when you lose your hard drive...mine has crashed twice in the last two years. Luckily, my brother is a computer whiz and recovered most of my pictures and files. The last time it happened, I bought a second hard drive for Storage; I back up everything on my computer onto it every week. I also installed a DVD burner and that's how I back up all my pictures...it's much more economical to use one 4GB DVD than six 700MB CDs. Also, email can be a great place to store files of particular importance. I have a Gmail account that I use for nothing but backing up my thesis, data and other important files. Be careful of floppy discs...they can be damaged very easily by heat, cold, magnets, scratching, etc. CDs are good but be sure to use CD-RW so that you can keep backing up onto the same CD until it's full. By far the best backup device (for files...not for pictures) is a memory key. It plugs into your USB port and you can just drag&drop your files onto it; they come in sizes up to 2GB, I believe. I'm so sorry you lost everything...I hope it never, ever happens again. {{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}

I'm so sorry you lost everything. I had mine crash 2 years ago and I lost everything, it was awful, but at least we learn from it.
