    Default Online Surveys

What is the real deal with these? There are ads plastered EVERYWHERE on the Net about how easy it is to get free stuff by taking surveys, but I always thought it was just a big hoax. Is it true? Are there safe, reputable sites that will give out prizes for taking surveys? What are the surveys about? Do you have to have special qualifications? How do you know if a site can be trusted or not?

There are very few available for Canada. The ones that are give virtually no surveys and typically pay in points that take forever to add up to enough to cash out, or in sweepstakes entries, which I personally consider to be a waste of time (I can enter any multitude of sweepstakes without having to waste 20 minutes on a survey).

Hotspex pays in points that you can exchange on points.com which is good if you collect something else like Esso or Aeroplan. Their surveys are a little less tedious than most companies. You also have the option of trading your points in for entries in prize draws. I signed up for every company that I could find that allowed Canadians and the only ones who ever send me surveys were Global Test Market and Lightspeed, I'm still a long way from reaching a payout on either. If you collect HBC points (I do and automatically convert each month to Air Miles) you can join Asking Canadians, which is a survey panel that pays in HBC points. There is one called Survey Lion, which never ever sent me a survey, and another one that used to send me some but I never qualified for any - they changed their name and I can't remember what they're called now.

I think most of the ads are not really survey sites, but the pyramid type schemes where you get a million friends to sign up for something and you 'win' a prize.

Of course the ultimate is Pinecone, but you need to find a banner when they are recruiting and match what they are looking for. But, shh, you aren't allowed to talk about Pinecone.

You can also join Bzzagent, which isn't really a survey company, but rather a word of mouth marketing company. They send you products to test and talk up with your friends. You fill out reports and get prizes.

Those are all the legitimate companies I know of. There are a lot more available to the U.S. If you're interested in any of the ones I'm in, let me know. They probably give out some kind of referral points or something.

I do Pinecone which is reliable. Also do Mysurvey. Both pay very quickly and both are reliable. Would love to find some other companies that are trustworthy.

NFOMysurvey is called TNS in Canada. I believe they are sweepstakes only here.

I've been doing surveys for over 6 years. I only do ones that pay, give points or may lead to product testing.

I also do MySurvey, Your2Cents, Opinion Outpost, and one that I forgot the name of but they usually have you rate ads for potential new products. I've only made about $15 so far this year, but hey, it's bit extra.
