Unhappy lost my wallet-steps to take?

Well I lost my wallet last night. I remember the last place I had it which was walking back to my car because then I stopped at a gas station and realized I didn't have my wallet where I last used it so I went back and tried backtracking but no luck. Tried calling today no luck and I'll try going to the places again to check again. I had 4 ccs, 1 debit, etc. in there and some cash. At most maybe 20-30 bucks. I have checked multiple times on all my accounts online to see if it's being used at all but it isn't. I haven't the slightest idea where in the world it could be if someone isn't having a ball right now on my cards. I would figure they would use it asap while they can. I checked all over my car to see if it fell out when I sat down but I don't see it. I remember putting it back into my peacoat pocket before leaving store so it meant it had to have jumped out while walking somehow? I am really confused on what could have happened to it. I'm not sure whether to cancel my cards right now or wait and see if it'll be returned.

I guess I learned my lesson though. Before this I had always been planning to only keep 2 ccs with me and leaving rest at home but never really got around to it but I practically put everything in there. I'm really hoping it turns up...

I hope it turns up for you as well! I wouldn't wait too long before calling and canceling the CC/debit cards. (Reporting them as lost)

make sure you call them all bright and early in the morning if they arent open right now. A friend of mine lost her wallet and within minutes there were charges totalling over $2500 on her cards, so act quickly.

I think by now the person would have WELL found it. It was in a parking lot where theres alot of traffic from walmart, petssmart, and toysrus. I am surprised no ones been charging it which leads me to believe that they either returned it or kept the measly money and threw out the wallet (which if they're dishonest enough to take the money they'd steal the cards). I just didn't want to cancel them all and have it found but I still haven't which is really weird. But I guess I'll check accounts again a couple more times tonight and tomorrow I guess I'll cancel if still not found.

Yes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

To protect yourself from any out-of-pocket liability, you should report them "lost" as soon as possible, so the accounts can be closed and new cards issued.

Here's a link to the Federal Trade Commission website that will give you additional information.

I would cancel everything as soon as possible. You never know. Also you could fill out a police report stating the wallet was lost in the vincinity of....
That starts a paper trail, in case whomever has your wallet uses the cards and is caught. What amazing, although replacement cards are sent right away, it is the drivers lic. that can be a nightmare to replace. hope it turns up.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I followed it and it's weird only ONE card was even used and that was the one inside the flaps, not visible in my wallet. And only once for gas. I think my bf knows who it is because he says someone parked in my spot right after. We had taken seperate cars and he had went to his car after me and saw someone in my spot but not a friend basis but just knows who he is. I find it strange someone only use it one time at a gas station I've never used in my life. Thanks again everyone as I never really knew about the specifics of reporting it stolen. It's just such a pain having to get a new license and everything else except I guess better that I didn't wait. I'm out like a good 50 bucks because of this but now I definitely learned my lesson. I NEVER loose things but last night I almost slipped on the black ice and it was extremely foggy (strange) and I think it popped out while I almost slipped and I probably didn't hear it drop because it probably slid on the ice. Time for a new wallet and new rules about not putting all my cards in the same wallet. A very hard lesson to learn and I usually always carry my purse but for some reason this time I didn't. It seems like bad luck all last week.
