i lost my job!
i have every other weekend off, and have planned my daughter in laws baby shower for next weekend. the assistant manager was supposed to work next weekend. she made plans to go on vacation after i had sent out invites. well to make a long story short, when i told them i could not work they fired me. i have been there almost 3 years, never told them no. i am happy about it, i was spending so much time there adn for little pay, i was hired for 3 days aweek, approx 18 hours, monday alone i worked 12.5 hours. dh told me to take some time off and relax, enjoy myself, spend time with my mom what ever i want. but i am a little scared, we have very little money in the bank, i am listing things on ebay and going to look for jobs online. this will give me time to go back to from scratch cooking which i love. and time to clean my house and what not. my daughter and i have already picked up a house to clean, for 100.00 ever other week. we are going to try to get a couple of more.

Think of it as a blessing in disguise. Since they treated you that poorly after you gave them 3 years of faithful service then they were not any company that you would have wanted to continue to be assocciated with. Enjoy your time off.

that is how i am kinda looking at it. but i have never been fired from any job, not in the 30 years i have been working. like i said i am glad the pressure is gone, i was working what ever hours they needed when ever they needed, but i could not justify cancelling the baby shower.

I agree about this being a blessing in disguise, I am sure you will manage, I know we did and if this company valued a long term employee they would have understood, glad you are rid of them, keep your head high!

Check into whether you are eligible for unemployment since you were fired but not for "cause" (in other words you didn't do anything wrong). This is exactly the kind of situation that is WHY they started having it. Anyway, every state works differently, and most have a delay from when you apply to when it starts paying, and may not go back and pay for time that you would have been eligible but hadn't applied, so do it sooner than later.
My take on the overall situation - God just opened a door for you (in this case without knocking:-) Won't it be exciting to see what is on the other side?
Best of luck, and congratulations!

i applied for unemployment yesterday after i got home. not sure if i will get it or not, but it was worth a try. other then the money there is not much i will miss( except my customers) i couldn't go to church as i worked sundays, i worked all holidays in the last 3 years, we had no benifits, no paid time off, i worked anytime between 4 a.m. and midnight, several times i would get al call at 10 at night to go to work at 4 the next morning. i am thinking of applying at the thrift store here in town, i don't mind working i am just tired of all the crap

Sorry- I actually laughed when I read their response to "fire" you after you said that you couldn't change plans. Did they think they could scare you into changing your plans? What bullies!
Good that you didn't buy that nonsense. I think it is a blessing for you and your family. HugsNana to Logan, Ryver, Robbie, Grant and Dennis

Sounds like a good thing to me too. A company that would fire you for one day? Good luck on the job front!
