I'm trying to save a life...
and it's my own..heres it goes..I have been smoking ciggarettes since I was 13yrs old..I'm a heavy smoker sometimes more than 2 packs a day but an average of 2 packs a day..Yesterday morning when I woke up I was having trouble breathing and said to myself "thats it I can't keep living like this".. so I had a box of Nicoderm patches and it has been over a day since I had a ciggarette..I'm fighting the urge every hour knowing I have 2-full cartons in my room..But this is my time to quit...Anybody else quit smoking? I know all of you nice FV family will support me as I travel this road to a healthy body and saving $175.00 a month..

I have never gone through this, but just wanted to say GOOD FOR YOU. I am always very proud of anyone who gives up such a deadly, addictive habit!

I quit a couple of years ago and it is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I can tell you that it does get easier. I just tell myself when I want a cigarette, no one ever died from not smoking. If they can do it I can, too.
Good luck. Keep up the fight!

My mom dies last August from uncontrolled high blood pressure (the diagnosis was a stroke). Her smoking for 30 years enhanced that. If death isn't a good reason to quit then I don't know what is. =/

My grandmother smoked for 63 years and at the age of 82 she quit. She died when she was 87. She smoked one after the other. Then one day she bought a hand held timer and every 10 minutes she lit one up, for a week. The next week she set the timer for 20 minutes and did the same for a week. When she got up to setting it for an hour she quit. It gave us five more years with her. Everyone has there way of quitting. I just wanted to offer support, it can be sometimes difficult to kick a habit we know isn't healthy, me included.
Hang in there.Maggi

i smoke too, i have given up many many times for either days, months or years - i know how hard it is. at this stage i'm down from a packet or more a day to 2 packets a week. i'm still wanting to give up though, i have trouble breathing at night now.
my dad gets annoyed at me (his father and uncle both died of lung cancer) and says giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world because you don't have to actually DO anything, you just stop doing it
this link has really helped

You can do it but unless you have great will power........ get those cartons out of the house. I quit cold turkey for 11 years and then one stupid night I started again. At one point I was up to almost 5 packs a day but now I'm down to 1- 1 1/2 a day. I try each day to cut back. Good luck you can do it

I quit in January. I had a pack-a-day habit. I would never, and I mean NEVER have had the will to stay away from 2 cartons right there in my own home. Quitting will get much easier, I promise. Keep it in your mind with every skin-crawling urge that you have to light up -"This is just the addiction talking."
You can beat this!!!!

My dh, Gripey quit 2 years ago on Valentine's Day. He was a 2 pack a day smoker for 30 years. I understand how tough this is. Hang in there, you can do it and you're gonna [B][I]smell[I][I] so much better not to mention how much better you feel
