WOW The price of onions is way up!
Went to the store today to do the food shopping and onions were on my list. (have not bought any in a while as I usually buy the 3# bags.)
They wanted $1.67 a pound. WHAT NO WAY am I paying that. The 3# bags were $5.99 and 3# of organic were $4.99. When did onions become so high.
I guess I will be planting some onions in my tiny little patch of garden I have.
I will be checking to see how much they are at aldi this week.
Cant wait for the farmers market to get into full swing so I can get them there.Debra

Just a comment for those who never think a lot about the humble onion.
The onion takes 32 weeks to grow. That's right...2/3 of a year.
That's a lot of time to invest in a vegetable.

Not only are they more expensive than they used to be, but the ones here are DISGUSTING! Covered in mildew-like stuff, fruit flies all over them

Gonna plant leeks instead of onions this year. Takes less time to mature and just as good as the onion in cooking. However there is nothing like a huge piece of onion on a juicy hamburger. Guess I'll pull out some onion sets and add those also even thought they take forever.

Oh God... I love onions.
I used to eat them in just about everything that wasn't sweet. I ate them in my meals at least 4 times a day... until the onion smell started coming out in my urine... kind of like asparagus. For the last few years I've had to cut back.
mmmm... they're so yum.

I've also noticed the prices of onions rising in my area. I'm waiting to find some on sale and will chop and freeze them for cooking.

I've noticed this too! I used to routinely be able to buy yellow onions 39 cents a pound, or 50 cents a pound at the most. When I was shopping this last week they were $1.67 a pound. I still bought them, but I was mad about it, lol.
