Default Don't pump gas email

I got this in an email today. Makes sense to me, just wondering what you all thought about this. I think I will participate in this one.

On May 15th ...

Passing it on, tell your friends….

NO GAS...On May 15th 2007

Don't pump gas on MAY 15th

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldn't) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th" <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

It's a good idea for sure but I don't see how it would make a difference in the long run. Gas prices would probably go up eventually anyway. I wish people's enthusiasm went to finding other ways to get around, find a job closerby, telecommute etc. But hey, thats just me.

I don't think it makes that much difference over all.

So if i don't give them my $30 bucks on the 15th of May... is it ok to give it to them on the 16th? I still need gasoline. It still costs me to fill my tank. The individual owner of the gas station can probably raise and lower the price of gas appropriate to the market area. If no one buys gas from him on the 15th, he can drop the price and get people filling their tanks on the 16th. It doesn't really change the amount that the "industry" is getting, it just changes they day they get it and may lower the profit for the owner. Think of it as a store being closed on Sunday. We still need the product they are selling so we just go a different day.

I am all for finding a way for us to be less dependent on oil based products. I greatly wish there was better public transportation in our area. The Maryland Mass Transit Admin doesn't know their head from a hole in the ground. (just my humble opinion!)

Here is the problem.

We buy our gas already in GAS form and we pay out the wazoo for it because our country(I am 98.3 lol % sure of this number) only has about 8-9 oil refineries to make our own gasoline. We can not keep up with the demand.

Until we A. get more refineries or B. get another source of fuel we are just up the creek without a paddle.

I wish there was some way to get the oil company's attention, but I don't see how this would work. Sooner or later everyone is gonna have to fill up their tanks anyways.

not to be the devil's advocate....but seems to me the lines will be shorter on the 15th...might be effective to get gas that day, no waiting in long lines if everyone else is heeding the no gas day...

“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller

“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference
