We drink tap water here, but I will buy a bottle if I'm out and really thirsty or something. I need to look into those bottles that Acid Cookie mentioned.

And I always carry two sippy cups full of (tap) water when I'm out, so that the girls have something to drink and we don't have to stop at every water fountain we see (yuck!) or worse, at some fast-food place ($$$).

Tap water here too, most of it through a Britta filter, but I make tea and ice with unfiltered water. I keep bottled water on hand, but a case of twelve will last months and months. I'll grab one occasionally as I head out the door for an expedition. About a year ago, our diretor at work put a water cooler in the staff lounge, something I think all of us really appreciated.

I used to think that people that were drinking bottled water were nuts paying for water they could get free from there tap at home. Well I have changed my mind. I have allergies and excezema and contact dermatitis and my immune system is really out of whack! My face would get red all the time and it would hurt like a sunburn. I bought a 24 pack of bottled water and it lasted me about a week. The one thing I noticed when I drank bottled water my face was no longer red. The only thing I can think of is that something in my tap water was not agreeing with me. I tried an experiment one time and drank the tap water and my face started to get red again.

Hm, this makes me worry. Has your water been tested for what's in it?

we buy bottled water and i refill the bottles with filtered water, juice, gatorade, etc. cheaper to buy big bottles of drinks and refill the little bottles from the big bottle. i drink water because i get dehydrated easy. got so dehydrated when i was pg with dd that i started having contractions early on. got put on bedrest for a little while and told to drink more.
when iwas working, some days i'd want cereal for lunch so i'd put milk in one of my little water bottles and take it to work. people would do a double take at my water bottle and ask what was in it, since it could have been refilled with milk, juice, koolaid, etc.

acidcookie My immune system since I have been born is really out of wack! When I was first born I was highly allergic to milk. When I got older it didn't bother me (from 14 to 19) than I can't even think about drinking milk or any dairy products. I get rashes and hives. Sometimes I can eat something and it won't bother me and the next time it will. My allergy doctor has finally gotten to the point with me that he doesn't know what to do with me anymore. He said I will have to do a trial and error with the foods I eat. The same thing happens to me if I drink to much pop or orange juice. I just drink a little bit so I won't get a red face. Nobody in my family gets a red face when they drink water, so I know it has to do with my immune system. Some people I know think it is the cholrine in the water that bothers me, but I question that, because when I go in a pool I have noticed that my skin clears up due to the chlorine (sp).

I don't know for sure who to believe on the water-health issue. I've read articles claiming that for the most part, many people are walking around dehydrated most of the time and don't even know it.

I also saw on local news that they had people try bottled water and tap water and they could not tell the difference in the taste but had previously claimed that tap water tasted bad. One person even described her tap water as tasting and smelling like sewer water but could not tell the difference when they tested her.

I've seen investigative reports, too, that said some stores were selling regular tap water to their customers and claming it was filtered or purified when it was not.

I read a study the other day that said more children are getting cavities because they are drinking LESS floridated tap water and more filtered, bottled water and juices.

The problem is that I don't trust anyone anymore. I don't trust published studies (who is paying for the study and why?) and I don't trust companies who care only about profit margins.

Common sense tells me that our tap water is not that bad but not all that good anymore, either. So I filter it for drinking and making coffee, drinks, etc.

The water on base has been contaminated twice in the past year and a half. It was e.coli contamination from run-off from neighboring cattle farms.

So I just bought a water cooler and buy flourodited Culligan water. The jugs come in around $5 and I fill my Nalgene for water on the go.

We have a filter for our kitchen sink and our ice maker. I know that the filter can not catch everything but it does help.
