Anyone else get comments from strangers
Does anyone else here ever get comments from complete strangers when they see you loading up your grocery cart?
I do once-a-month grocery shopping and Saturday, as dd & I were loading our cart with 56 cans of juice, this man came up to us & said "wow..you must really like the taste of it(juice)". I was pleasant about it
...There have been other times when the cashiers would actually question us as to why we were buying so much of one item....this I think is a little rude- I figure that if they are not the ones paying for it, they don't have any business asking-it kinda makes me feel as if I committed some type of a crime.lol.
I guess the weirdest thing that has ever happened to us at the store was a guy -about early 20's- saw how much milk that we had in the cart & stopped dh & I & wouldn't let us go down the aisle...this guy was loony-tunes. He kept threatening us for buying "too much milk" - that he was going to wait for us outside & kept acting like he had a knife/gun in his pocket....being about 5 months pg w/ #9, I got store security before my dh could deck the wacko(proud of dh for his restraint.lol).

Yes, I've had people comment on my full grocery cart. Why do people care? Weird. I've thought about bringing my 13yo ds along as the example of why I need to buy so much food.

Also gotten comments
Some woman actually chastised me for having so much "health" food in my cart as I was loading stuff onto the conveyor. She said "What? No dessert? Are you watching your figure?" and then she chuckled. The nerve....I am a petite girl and didn't really appreciate the comment. I didn't give her a response. Mind you this woman could have used a healthier diet from the looks of her and so I decided to feel sorry for the poor woman instead of snapping some comment back at her. I glanced in her cart full of hostess products, hamburger helper, canned chilli, and sugar cereals. And just felt even better about my purchases of fresh organic veggies, chicken, and whole grain bread. I don't know why people get so judgemental. I say BE PROUD of your purchases! and if you're purchasing things you can't be proud of or feel good about then don't project it onto others.

At the store I have never got any comments, though I can't remember the last time I have gotten groceries without any kids with me. I always have atleast one and quite often all 4 with me. The neighbors on both sides of us are really nosey though, they ask how we afford for me to stay home, they have commented that I shop alot, they don't think dh works enough hours, they have asked what our bills run. They are just weird I think.

I have a coupon binder that is the size of a phone book. NO Bigger!
I often see people looking at it and trying to figure out what it is. I think its funny. I open it up and flip threw the paiges as I look at clearence bins and I saw this woman just stairing at it. I dont think she ever saw so many coupons in one place. I dont mind. If you want to pay for your groceries go ahead but I prefer to get mine for next to nothing!
I did have a cashier ask why I was buying 44 cans of soup. But after she ran my coupons and saw my bill drop to nothing she understood why.

Yikes. I normally get comments about my hair.
It's normally some kind of unnatural pink/dark red. But never about the kind of foods that are in my cart.

People should not be judgmental of what another has in their cart. My grandmother died of complications from Alzheimer's Disease. As it progressed she would not eat well at all. I helped care for her at the time. Her doctor instructed me to buy sweets because she would eat those. I loaded up on all kinds of sweets and I got some comments. You just never know why a person has something in their cart.

socalgal- I buy 2 to 4 copies of the paper each week. IF there are more that i need then I will trade with other coupon traders online and or I get them from the recycle center. People just throw them away and you can have them if you want them. You can also ask your news delivery guy for his extra inserts and if he is nice he will give them to you, maybe in trade for some of the free stuff you get with the coupons. I also walk around the grocery store and collect the blinkies. Save them for when the item is on sale.

I usually have enough to do keeping track of my own cart and coupons without looking in someone else's cart.

You should see the looks on their faces when I tell them that I have 10 children...first their jaw drops to the floor...then they shut their yaps & don't say anything else(I love that reaction
.....I know...I'm mean.lol)

one time i had some gc's from church intended to benefit the pantry program. Since i am home during the days the coordinator asked if i would mind picking up things to stock the shelves. I loaded up. I had coupons, etc. Took me four hours to shop. I got in line (3 full carts) and someone behind me looked at me and said somehting about "no wonder ... " (i am rather round...4'11 and WAY WAY overweight). I looked her dead in the eye and said i was feeding 15 families this week. (it was actually 17 but still) The cashier said "you go". and then closed the line after me and helped me to load up my van.
