$5 for a tomato
So I went to look at craigslist, haven't checked it out in a while and thought cool they have some new categories. So I click on farm/garden and there is a person selling what he claims is organic tomatoes, he wants $5 a tomato and will deliver for an additional $3. We grow our own tomatoes during the summer and freeze alot for winter cooking use, haven't bought a tomato in years. So is an organic tomato really worth $5. He offers a 10% discount if you buy more then 6.

Yikes! Even the local growers here in this tiny expensive (and often snooty) town down rip people off that bad.

No tomato is worth $5.00 a piece organic or otherwise. (JMHO )

Unless it is the size of a pumpkin, I would say no way...too costly for me.

I recently bought 2 tomatoes at Giant Eagle and paid $6.00. This is one of the reasons I decided to start a vegetable garden this year. I'll get organic, better tasting vegetables for a whole lot less.

Tomatoes (the non-organic variety) run around $2.99 a pound here. It is not uncommon to pay $2.00 for one, if it is very large. I would never pay $5.00 for a tomato. I did notice the tiny boxes of raspberries (4.4 ounces!) were $4.99 last week. Dd wanted to get some, she loves fresh berries. I said no. We bought strawberries instead. They were $3.50 for a MUCH larger container. Produce prices are wrecking our grocery budget.
