What is your calling?
Just wondering how many of you feel that you have a "calling"--religious or otherwise. Are your talents in a certain area and do you do that for work or volunteer in that area?
I'm always fascinated by "callings".Mom to two crazy boys

I have a calling to be a care giver. That is what I have done all my life. I took care of my mom and dad, an aunt, my fil, and now a cousin and my mil. All these people were so good to me so I never minded caring for them in their old age. Blessings...Kathy

I have always been drawn to elderly people. I don't mind helping them out and looking after them. I also find they are great company.

I would say my calling would be animals especially dogs. I can't get enough of them. I have a dog of my own and I still make a point to drive by the doggie daycare so I can see the dogs in the window. Even though I am not working right now I try to give to animal organizations in the way of food or money. I would love to find a job helping animals. As a little girl I would find dogs, take care of them and find their families. It brought me such joy. About a year ago I found a beautiful dog near my yard. I knew it belonged to someone and sure enough it had jumped out of a window from its house and the relatives had not noticed it was gone for quite sometime. The family of the dog were on vacation in Florida. I finally found the relatives driving around looking for the dog. I was so grateful that I had found this dog and hooked him up to my dog's outside lead because this dog was the pet to 2 small children. It would have been such a loss for them.
My husband's calling is firefighting. Since he was knee high to a grasshopper and before he could say Fireman clearly he said he wanted to be one. He is a Firefighter/EMT. He truly loves it and gets a lot of joy helping people especially the elderly. He enjoys their stories.

There are so so so many things I'm interested in even outside of my graduate studies and my hobbies and talents that I honestly just feel that my calling is to be a well-educated person.

Mine's working with the elderly. I work (only PT now while the kids are little) in a nursing home, and I love my residents. Their various disabilities and illnesses have never bothered me, yet I can't tell you how many times I hear "How can you stand to work there?" or "Isn't that depressing?" from others.
I really believe working with a special population of any sort is a calling. When I take my DS to therapy it's hard for me to see some of the children there who have a lot of special needs... it would be very hard for me to work with that population. That's definitely not my calling, but I'm so thankful that there are people who are called to work there!

It is funny that I always dreamed of being a teacher, yet for all these years I have seen some teachers just drown in paperwork and dont really get to be a talented teacher. So my calling is watching children, I watch them as if I was a teacher, we study, work, play and it seems every time I think I have had enough. Sure enough there comes another child, that needs my guidance more than the last, making it impossible to do anything else. So God guides my life and I am truly blessed to do what I love and still stay home for my own children.

I don't know really. I'm drawn the most to helping people find the best way for them to get healthy be it through alternative healthcare, finding a new doctor, just getting more information they didn't have, using supplements, etc.... I spent years of my childhood being so sick and I like helping others avoid that. I also enjoy empowering others and helping them to see a positive path in their lives. Some may call it spiritual in a sense. I believe we're all connected and those I can help are always drawn to me.

I truly feel that my calling is to be a SAHM and homeschool my children - after that, I'm not sure! I was a half a semester and student teaching away from my teaching certification when I realized that it was NOT the environment I was called to be in. I also decided there was NO WAY my children would go to a public school .... ever. The things I saw and learned in my classes were a huge wakeup call to me! I truly felt led to drop out of the teaching program and focus on being a SAHM/homeschooling mom.

I have always enjoyed chemistry, ever since I was a small child. I feel that being a scientist can truly help people, everything from new medicines to space age materials. The Army didn't work out for me, as I was medically discharged, so I am going to do my other choice and become a chemist, that is if I can get through all the calculus.
