    Default Lead in Water Pipes

GRRR We have just found out that our city is randomly testing older homes water because a lot still have lead pipes connecting to the water system. If we have it, it may cost 2000 to 10,000 to replace the connection. But they aren't testing all!!! We live in an older home in an older part of the city. I never liked drinking our water before this I thought it tasted funny lots of chlorine tasting, now I am scared to drink it. My DH just thinks I am being a worry wart, maybe I am but come on lead is a real health risk. Now we are getting a filter system so does any one know if the Brita systems really work and can remove lead and other heavy metals?

They are supposed to be good at filtering the lead but you need to replace the filter when indicated. We used our Brita pitcher for years (stopped when someone gave us the kind that goes on the water spout) and it really improved the taste of the water.

    Sorry for your water woes.

    Tracy,
If you are worried about your water, go to your state's government site and look up water testing.(Health and human services is the department, I believe, that handles it) You can have your water tested-it can be somewhat pricey, but if it gives you piece of mind it maybe worth the cost.

All cities and towns have some lead in their pipes. I know my city does. Our water is safe to drink but they advise us to run the water for a minute in the morning before drinking it. We also are advised to not use warm water for consumption because it softens the lead pipes and leads to some lead in the water.
