Default $130 a month on COFFEE!!!!!!

Okay I'm a pretty regular lurker here so I'm Melanie and I am pretty frugal. Anyway, my DH has just recently jumped on the frugal "bandwagon", sort of. I am happy about that but the problem I am having now is him questioning everything I do with money. He told me yesterday he wanted me to be more careful with money. Okay, but why is it okay for him to spend $5.00 a day on iced coffee It doesnt seem fair. Does anyone know an alternative to iced coffee from the coffee stand that I could make at home to save $130 a month (yes, I said $130 a month) on coffee!!!!!!!!!

We make some here. I use coffee ice cubes, coffee, sugar, and creamer. Blend together. It tastes great!

Same here - I throw some cold coffee, cream, sugar and ice (sometimes just coffee and a little vanilla ice cream...extra decadent!) in the blender and whizz up until creamy. You can make it thicker or thinner, depending on how you like it. You can make a ton of these for very little $$.

The best part is you can make it with lower fat products if you like, so you can save a LOT of calories!!

i make iced coffee all the time.
i brew the coffee with the same amount of coffee but less water than i would usually use then i add my cream and sugar to the hot coffee so i melts in, give it a minute to cool a bit then i dump it on ice and fill the rest of the glass with cold milk. we use a travel mug coffee maker so its easy for us to do it this way

I would suggest that both of you get the same amount of money from the budget every payday and then you get to spend (or save) it however you wish on whatever you wish - its called blow money. His can be used on his $5 iced coffees. He may think twice about wasting that much money on something thats not all that good for him (if its made with heavy cream) and may wish to save it for something else and go for your homemade version instead just so he can have both!

I budget blow money for myself to include buying extra groceries when I want to try a new recipe. Buying shoes, clothes, air freshener for the car b/c I really dont 'need' one its just nice to have. I use it for books, eating out, movies etc whatever my bf and I wish to do on our dates and out of that blow money comes an extra half or whole tank of gas just to ensure I can go see my bf if our schedules dont jive as much as we'd like them to.

As for the homemade versions - there's many recipes and versions out there. Have you tried recipezaar.com or allrecipes.com? Plus the recipes from the ladies here at the village are wonderful and usually tried, tested and true!

I'm sorry. I would have answered sooner, but I just regained consciousness.
That's $1560 per year. Tell him that if join him, it's $3120 per year.

Even if you are debt free, you can put it in an investment account, go on vacation, or share with a friend. I'll be your friend *LOL* jkjkjk.

Seriously, if you have kids, there are college funds and weddings. You can make an extra payment(s) on your mortgage, saving for emergencies, retirement, medical emergencies and a ton of other projects...upgrade your appliances to make them more energy efficient, invest in solar heating, new furnace/heat pump/etc. I'm flabbergasted and I wish you much luck with hubby.

Show him how much per year it costs him alone and if you join him. Then fast forward 5 years.(7800 alone or 15600 if you join him) (without interest).

Then ask him what he might like to pay off. Good luck and God bless!!
