New Gal in Expensive California!
Hello all! I'm new to this site and, at the suggestion of bumplett, I'm saying hello in the Official Hello Forum.
I discovered this site thanks to claimsgirl66, who was kind enough to link my blog Consciously Frugal (it's on blogspot, but since I'm new, I can't post a link!) in one of the forums. I surfed my way back and found this fabulous place. It's so great to see such an impressive community of like-minded folks.
I was lucky enough to be raised by frugal folks and spent my childhood in the gorgeous, green of Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas. Madness (also known as "working in the non-profit industry")moved me to the Los Angeles area, where I currently reside. Definitely a culture shock! But, thanks to the wisdom of my family, I've been able to survive and thrive in this expensive concrete jungle.
My parents are not only frugal, but socially conscious do-gooders (read: hippies) who instilled a powerful commitment to community and the environment in me. So, my blog reflects that--it's about saving money in a way that respects the whole of humanity and our planet. Sometimes the cheapest option doesn't consider the human or environmental cost. Sometimes, it does. I try to find the best balance. The blog is new, so expect a great deal more info, displays of categories, etc. Your input and suggestions are more than welcomed!
Other stuff (trying to follow the intro suggestions): I have a fabulous frugally-minded boyfriend who hails from Scotland. Our relationship works well probably because I can barely understand him.
I have no children, just two adorable rescue mutts. I'm a writer and editor for the online magazine GetUnderground.com and work in fundraising and communications with non-profit organizations.
Now that I've bored you to tears, I'll try to shutup. Thanks so much to claimsgirl66 for linking my blog and therefore introducing me to this community. I hope to learn a great deal from each of you and am happy to lend any support possible to folks trying to get out of debt or get more involved in their communities.
What I'm most impressed with thusfar is the fact that so many folks have their goals and accomplishments displayed. Ingenious! The number of moms and dads is also impressive. How lucky for children to grow up with parents dedicated to financial security!
Wait, didn't I say I was going to shutup?
Cheers,
ConsciouslyFrugal

I am a complete Luddite! I have no idea how to PM??
Let's see if I can do it this way: consciouslyfrugal.blogspot.com. Just cut and paste.
FrugalMom, I will definitely post a link to your blog. I'm going to add a "community" section tomorrow to the side bar, and will highlight your blog. I'm not a mom, so I have little experience in that area. It'll be great to share your info with my mommy readers. Not to mention that I'm addicted to blogs!
Thanks again everyone.
