    Default Help, help!

    I need to increase my typing speed!! I have until August 13 to get from 30 wpm to at least 50. more would be even better. I am aware that practice makes perfect. I can type pretty quickly when I am just typing out my thoughts...but when copying text I screw it all up.

    Any ideas?

    Broke, can't take a class...

    If you don't want to do downloads, you can almost always find typing programs in the cheap software CDs at Office Depot and similar places. Teaching typing is one of the things computers are brilliant at doing!

    [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Cortez-Peters-Championship-Typing-Drills/dp/0070496374"]Amazon.com: The Cortez Peters Championship Typing Drills: An Individualized Diagnostic/Prescriptive Method for Developing Accuracy and Speed: Cortez Peters: Books[/ame]

    Cortez Peters really works well - I took it years ago. It gives you typing tests to take yourself, then gives you specific drills to practice based on your test results.
    “When you get to the end of all the light you know
    and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
    faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
    you will be given something solid to stand on,
    or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller

    “Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
    there are signs that the world is speedily
    coming to an end;
    bribery and corruption are common; children no
    longer obey their parents;
    every man wants to write a book and the
    end of the world is evidently approaching.”

    This is the keyboarding drill that was suggested to us by my medical transcription school. It's amazing. If you practice it 20 minutes a day for 3 weeks, your typing speed with increase more than you can ever believe. I went from 55 to 80 practically overnight.

    abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz (repeat 4 times)
    a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z (repeat 4 times)
    z y x w v u t s r q p o n m l k j i h g f e d c b a (repeat 4 times)
    abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz (repeat 4 times)
    zyxwvutsrqponmlkjihgfedcba (repeat 4 times)

    Focus on accuracy, not speed. Go so slow that you don't make one single mistake.

    Cortez Peters is fantastic, but I recommended the other book [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Cortez-Championship-Keyboarding-Skillbuilding-Applications/dp/0070496358/ref=pd_sim_b_1/002-1339084-5224850"]Championship Keyboarding, Skillbuilding, and Applications[/ame] You should be able to buy it on half.com for a few bucks.

    I second (or third) doing the alphabet repeatedly. It really does help. It was the only way I could learn to type.

    These are from my homeschooling files:
