Could you Become Homeless?
Does anyone else worry about living on the street or in their car? I know in my head that that could never happen. We have a lot of family in the area that we could stay with, and we are not that badly off, I just have this deep rooted fear that if I lost my job, we would lose every thing.
I guess I need to work on EF no matter how long it takes.

I have this thought sometimes too, I know that my family would take me in if I ever needed a place to stay. Last month I started working at a non-profit office that handles homeless and mentally ill case issues. It's hard to see people who really have no home or family that will take them in. Then I think of my own situation, I only work there part time, so I am only currently earning 1/2 of what I need to live on and survive. My fiance has been paying full rent and utilities and I am not sure how long that will be able to continue, since he has to dip into savings in order to pay for my 1/2 too. I am looking for full time work and trying to find another part time job to make more money. I worry that I won't make it financially through some months.

I already have a been there done that story for you. A few years back my dh's lost his business, leading to the loss of our dream house and cars. He found a job florida, we lived in NC at the time. So we packed up and went to Florida for a job but no place to live, spent a few nights in a hotel and managed to meet someone that had a property they wanted to sell, but it needed some work done to it first, we lived there for free for 8 months and did the work he wanted done to it, then we moved on. Yes I agree a good EF is a necessary thing to have, but I also believe that God will provide. I am also greatful now that things happened the way they did. Had we not lost everything, I don't think I would have had the desire to become frugal and work my way out of debt. Now I sit here and know other then a mortgage I don't want to be in debt for anything else, and the dream house we had really isn't my dream house anymore.

Sure, it could happen. I have family that would take me in, though.

I was homeless up until a month ago, so I know first hand that it's possible. Even now I live w/my 2 children in a small one room apartment. But at $375/month with all utilities paid, I can't pass that up right now. However, it's threatening knowing that at any given second that could be gone and I could be back at square one once again.
You've just got to believe that everything will be okay, and pray for the best. We go through everything for a reason, and we just have to trust that everything will be okay in the end.

The way the economy is going lately. . . I worry about it more and more. We have one house paid off, one farm paid off. . . but the house we live in still has a few more years to go ---
Taxes, etc are an issue as well. *sigh*
We have lots of family, but if the economy goes bad, we're in a better position than most of them. They'll all probably end up on MY doorstep.

I worry every day. we live pay check to pay check and my dh's living depends on the economy. IF his work doesnt pickup now I dont know what winter will bring for us. We have family but most of them ask us for help.

Yes, it could definitely happen since my only income is what I bring in. So save, save, save into that emergency fund! (Not preaching, just a pep talk to myself!)

Yep...no doubt about it. I have to make a concerted effort to fight the fear. I have lost everything and I'm not young anymore. I live with some family now. But, there are no guarantees of anything for anybody. It's scary.

Is it possible? Yes, anything is possible.
Is it probable? No.
Do we worry about it? No.
Even if we were to lose our home, savings, investments, retirement, and the very unlikely event that DH could not find another position in his field we still would not be on the streets. We have way too many family members who we could stay with as long as we needed to.DD (19)
