Default How much sleep did you get w/a newborn?

Yep, my daughter is 15 and son is 10 and my new son is almost 3 weeks!

I average about 4 -6 hours a night on the good nights. (not straight through) I would not take this time back for the world, but oh so tired.

Crazy thing is that I would do it all over again. lol I just love my time with him. I think sometimes I should give myself a break and have my daughter watch him for a hour or two to get some nap time during the day. The problem is....is that I want to be in charge, feed him always, change him, etc. I want that time, but I guess sometimes moms need a break, huh.

The wonderful joys of parenthood. The memories are so worth it!!

So how much sleep did you get?

None. Until he turned a month old. that's when I started putting rice cereal in his bottle and feeding it to him before he'd go to sleep in the evening. Then he started sleeping through the night. And has since then. I count my blessings everyday!

Answer I guess was about 7 hrs.
I did the rice cerreal in his bottle when he was 3 weeks old because the milk wasn't enough.

With a newborn (less than 4 months old) never more than 4 hours. I didn't get five or more hours of sleep until DS was about 6 months old. Now, thank goodness, he sleeps 11 hrs a night.

I am right there with you!! She was one month yesterday, and we are feeding at night - 9pm, midnight and again at 4am. And this is a blessing compared to the every 2 hours we were doing! I almost feel like I am on vacation. If I can, I rest when she does during the day.

I usually got 5 hours with ds#1 because he was such a great sleeper and only woke up once a night from the very beginning then was sleeping through the night at 2 months. Ds#2 it was between 4 and 5 hours depending on how much he woke up until 3 months then he stopped eating at night, all I had to do was find the pacifer so I got about 6, maybe 7 hours of sleep.

    First, CONGRATULATIONS!

We co-slept with both of our newborns! Grace moved to her own room and bed at 15 months and slept through the night for the first time 3 days after being in her own room!!!!!!!!

Michael is almost 5 months old now, but when he was "new", he would only wake up to nurse 2-3 times.......... and I would nap in the afternoon when Grace would nap (I'd either stick Michael in the swing or co-sleep to nap w/him).

It's funny .... I never realized that the OTHER child could be the problem with a new baby in the house! LOL We were soooo worried that we'd get a "hard" or "high needs" baby, but Michael has been awesome............ It's GRACE that has become more difficult and needy. LOL Ah well. THey're little for such a short time!!

We are in the same boat at roughly the same time! Mine is 2 weeks. I did a happy dance this morning when I realized that I only had to get up once last night! I BF so I'm usually up every 2 hours or so. I definately feel like this most days....

    lol

Both of my sons were great sleepers and slept through the night after about the first month but my daughter made up for all that extra sleep, she never slept more than a few hours at a time and it would take an hour to get her back to sleep, so for the about the first 6 to 8 months of her life, I think I got about 4 hours sleep total for the night.

not a whole lot. and definitely not all that i needed. but my DH would often take one nighttime feeding/ comforting so i could get some real sleep, he was very good about that.

I actually got a lot of sleep with Wesley, he would usually only get up once aroun 11, once around 2, and then up for good around 6.

I remember no sleep nights with my first-I would constantly do the "is she breathing?" bit-I survived on TAB(how gross) and coffee.
If someone can give you a break for a nap-grab it! You will feel better.
