Default What does the World Eat?

If this has been posted before, please forgive

I found these pics fascinating. The two things that really smacked me in the eye were:

    a) How much PACKAGING the average family, right across the world, consumes every day (with the exception of Africa and South America), and;
    b) How much food a family of 4 from pretty much every country consumes, in relation to how much a family of 10 or 12 does, per week. And how much junk food.

I found it shocking going from one slide where the family feeds 13 people with 5.03 per week, to the next family who can feed 4 people with 500.07/week! I agree, there was so much packaging! I am sure, though, that if I took out all of the food we eat in one week, we would be up there with the packaging. No way on earth would I ever pay $500 for a weeks worth of food though!!!

lottalove, you're so right in your post!

Did anyone notice The Ayme Family? They look absolutely pitiful and had very little to feed their family, but did you notice how HAPPY they look?

    What a message.

I thought the very same thing. And the last family, the one who spent the most, looked the most unhappy. IMHO

    This was very interesting!!

~Thanks for posting. Really makes me feel blessed to have so much. And I just about had a heart attack when the German family came up. The son looks exactly, and I mean EXACTLY like my son. My hubby's family is PA German. Weird.~

That was eye opening. I never realize how much packaging we are putting into the landfills until I see it spread out in living color over someones kitchen table.

The thing I noticed was that a lot of the folks in the poorer countries had the better diet, more fresh fruits & veggies.......also meat must be expensive everywhere because I didn't see a lot of that.

It was interesting thanks for sharing.

I thought it was interesting that the family in CA eats on 159.18 a week, while the family in NC spends 341.98. That's a difference of 182.80. I know the NC family had two older boys in the house, but that's a HUGE difference, Just goes to show you that you don't HAVE to spend a ton to eat.

The large families from Cairo, Kuwait, Mongolia and Ecuador had very little in terms of packaging - but plenty of fresh produce. They all look very healthy and not overweight. Also very happy. A lesson to be learned there I think.

In direct contrast was the German family with $500 budget and a plethora of alcohol on the table. 4 bottles of wine and about 25 beers. They looked pretty miserable. Not surprising really when you see what they eat, and how much it costs them. At least 100 bucks a week must surely go on all that alcohol.

Notice how nobody had put a carton of cigarettes on the table?

That was amazing in so many ways. I bought a lot of fruit today and veggies at the store so I think I did good even thought I broke down and also bought some cookies on sale but that's pretty rare!

deffently eye opener. Where some worlds thrive on open markets and fresh foods every day, so less packaging and other place rely on all pre packaged foods, holy moly.

Wow, that is really neat. I noticed that the American families seemed to have the least amount of fresh produce. I want to go eat with the family in Mexico, their stuff looked yummy. lol
