Default So THIS is what an emergency fund is for...

Well, we're coming back from our vacation to the Grand Canyon and driving along I-40 when calamity strikes...the power steering pulley broke on our truck which in turn broke the serpentine belt. Thankfully, we were able to get it to a little town in Arizona close by and there is a Ford dealership in town. Tomorrow morning my DH will be taking it in and we'll be keeping our fingers crossed that they can work on it and fix it by tomorrow so we can get back on the road again. Other than that, it's been a great vacation. As we coasted our truck into the parking lot of a hotel, our 11 DS, very pragmatically, stated, "Well, mom, I guess this is what our emergency fund is for."

I'm glad you are all ok! Whew!! That must have been quite scarey! Ok I'm picturing mountains though I really have no clue if you were in mountains. You have a smart kiddo Michelle! You've been a good teacher. I know it still bites though! Enjoy the reat of the trip!
We had a few disasters on our vacation we just got back from. My db hit my car. My transmission blew a seal ($1100- no car for 3 days)) and we got home to find fil had hit dh's car. I tell you I had to laugh! What are the odds?! Really? UMMM it seemed it happened in 3's for us.

Oh man, I hate it when things like this happen. At least ya'll were not stranded on the open road somewhere. Good thing you had that EF to lean on! Praying all goes well with the repairs and you can get back on the road SAP, with no more problems.

Thanks for the responses! My DH is at the dealership now having them check the truck. Mick, I'm sorry you had so many car "problems" after your trip. I hope your trip went well. I know what you mean by the "happening in threes" sort of thing. Sometimes it seems to work like that for us. Hopefully, we'll be on our way soon.

Yeah things do seem to be in 3's. However no 3's for you and your family on your trip~ok~!!! Actually the transmission and my brother hitting in were on vacation. Fil hitting dh's was while we were gone. But like your wise kiddo said.....................thats why you had an EF!

I hope you are up and running now! Enjoy!

Michelle~I am glad you were close to a town and weren't stranded. Hopefully the dealership will have it fixed today and you will be on the road again...hopefully enjoying the rest of your vacation.

Hi, guys! Well, we're finally home. We drove through an unbelievable thunderstorm in west Texas last night--winds at least 80 mph (saw several tractor trailers overturned) and a lightning show like you wouldn't believe! We stopped at a rest stop to let it pass a bit and my DS was terrified. (Well, okay, DH and I and I'm sure our DD were also a bit rattled by it all) Anyway, we found a nasty hotel to bed down in (at least it was a place to sleep) and the storm finally subsided about 3 AM. One adventure after another!

Overall, it was a great trip and we were able to see so many things. I can't say enough about how nice the folks in Holbrook, AZ (where we were stuck while our truck was being repaired) were. They were so helpful and made our stay very pleasant. Anyway, I guess I'd better change my sig line to reflect our depleted EF. *Sigh*

It's great to be back home and back on Frugal Village!
