    Default My diet, OMG!

I have been on the Alli pill for a few days and I am doing great. Im happy to report no "potty" problems. In fact I feel more balanced and normal then I have in a long time. ON the Alli plan you are allowed no more then 15 grams of fat per meal. At first I though this was alot, I have tried a lot of diets but none of them allowed that much.
I will be on a trip next month and I got to thinking about how I am going to eat right while on the road. I saw an article about eating right at a restaurant and holy cow, I can see why we have a weight problem. The fat and calories at restaurants are totaly off the charts. The article did show some examples about how to make healthier choices but even those choices are atleast double the fat I am allowed to have.
Chili has a pasta and chicken dish that has 2,200. calories and 220 fat grams in it. That just pasta, chicken, broccoli and cheese..
Now Im really concerned about traveling, maybe I should stay home.
Does anybody have any good ideas on how I can stick to my plan while eating out and at other peoples homes.

Sorry, no advice, but I understand why you're concerned. When I'm traveling I just hit the salad bars and eat fruit for dessert. I've lost 19 Lbs. in the last 6 months just by eating smaller portions, and I feel so much better. Maybe you could Google for tips. Good luck, and enjoy your trip.

You should go on your trip. You just have to look for healthy choices.

And if all else fails ask if you can have the kids meal. That is what I do at fastfood res. The portions are just the right size. Or stick with salads.

Author JoAnn Lund has a book (which I cannot remember the title) that describes how she and her truck driving husband traveled and she ate at truck stops and still managed to lose about 70 lbs. Do a Amazon search then head to your library. Sorry, I do not have the book, to reference to. I just remember that part of the book.

i try to get dh to go to applebees so i can eat off the weightwatchers menu. i don't follow their plan, but i know those choices are going to be better for me than the rest of the menu. and they taste good too.
otherwise, try salads with the dressing on the side. if you want a sandwich, again get and dressing or sauces on teh side. grilled is better than fried most of the time.

This is what me and DH do. We order a main dish which we split and have two side salads-dressing on the side.

Looking at restaurant websites is a good idea. There is also a great calorie counting book that has most chain restaurants in it. The website is www.calorieking.com It will show the book and you can get it on amazon or at any bookstore. You can also check the nutrition information for tons of other foods on that website.

Good luck and have fun on your trip!

    Hahahaha, I know your pain!!

Last year when my sis and I took my dad to Vegas in the family van all he wanted to stop and eat at were the local and/or charity casino buffets. At first we ate like royalty b/c the buffets in the US are a bit different then those in Canada. After a good meal or two we became bored and went back to eating normally.

Tips I used to try to eat better when we went to the buffet twice a day for 3 wks straight:

1 - picked steamed fish and ask for it plain...no sauces, no oils, no butter - NOTHING. Ask if you can season it yourself OR pick very lean cuts of meat again ask for it plain, no sauces etc

2 - fill your plate with veggies - steamed or raw from the salad bar. measure your dressing using a tablespoon and only allow yourself one full tablespoon/meal or ask if they offer salt shaker alternatives/spices etc aka mrs dash (the other 2 x 1/4 of plate = 1/4 protein and 1/4 starch) I always allowed myself unlimited veggies/salad so long as it was plain

3 - you dont need starch at every meal - as in bread. you can have cabbage or a potato instead of bread and try to eat it dry - boring I know.

4 - dessert - only pick ONE item and do not allow yourself to eat more then a bite. luckily for me Im not a dessert person so a bite would suffice and satiate. REMEMBER you can always have dessert again tomorrow, its not going anywhere

5 - have a cup of coffee/tea after your dessert to fill all the nooks and crannies in your tummy to help you feel fuller and complete.

Thats what worked for me - plus I gave up soda. I didnt want any extra sodium from food unless I chose to add it and I certainly didnt want to drink it. Ice water with lemon is still my fave to this day - odd.
