UPDATE on my DH losing his job:
First off, let me say how much I have missed all that goes on here, and all that is talked about here...........
For anyone who missed my first post, about 3 weeks ago, my dh lost his job. It was kinda a blessing in disguise, because he was so unhappy and wanted to leave, but for monetary reasons did not feel that he could. (He was paid a LARGE bonus to take the job, and would have had to pay it back because he had only been in the job 2 years and he signed a "contract" saying he would stay for at least 3 or else pay back the remaining portion.......anyway, it would have meant us paying back several thousand dollars).....ANYWAY - they fired him, so we get to keep the money, so that was good. What was bad, was that this was a HIGH paying job. Fortunately for us, we live frugally (DUH!) and well below what he was making, so we had our 3 to 6 months saved, plus he got a 3 month severence........ok so I am babbling here - I have been "out of the loop" because he has spent so much time at home online and in the office, that I have had to stay out...you would thinking that having hubby home would be nice, and it is.....kinda. It also really messes up your routine. I mean REALLY messes it up!
OK, so here is the result - I think he has found a job!!! He had about 4 offers, some better than others, and he hasn't totally said "Yes" yet, but I am quite sure he will in the next few days. He had a few local offers here in NW Iowa, but they really did not make him too excited (and we don't totally love the town we live in either). He had a headhunter working on about 5 options. The ones that we got serious about were: Colorado Spings, CO - that would have been GREAT! and Yuma, AZ - that would have been AWFUL!! (nothing personal, I just really didn't want to live there). As he and the headhunter talked for HOURS AND HOURS, it became clear that they thought very much alike, and the headhunter asked my dh if he would ever consider coming to work for their firm. Well,...no he hadn't - but now he is. So what does all this mean? It means that my DH is going to work for an agricultural recruiter as a headhunter to find people new jobs. (He has been in the AG business his whole life). We are moving to Hesston, KS. It is about 30 miles north of Wichita. Now, this may not sound great to everyone, but I am so excited! I think he starts on July 22. We have SO many things to do, we have to sell our house (no easy feat - it's a great big house in a small town), find one there (we kind of already have), and about a billion details! We have to figure school out, the boys won't be there in time for school to start in Aug, and we need to finish up our post placements for our adoption in IA, otherwise it costs more to get it "redone" in KS.....so many things. We went down there the other day to meet the staff and see the area - we loved it!
Just to make things even more nutty - I am going to Washington State (my hometown) to spend two weeks with my family. My hubby cannot go, when we got our tickets, he had a job that he had to stay home for, and now he'll stay home and get things ready in our house for it to be sold.....I am looking forward to leaving and seeing how much gets done in two weeks while I am gone -
Thanks for listening to me go on and on and on and on and on.....did I make any sense?

Congratulations on the new job for your Dh!
That must be a great feeling to have that taken care of. I hope everything goes smoothly for your family in moving and everything else! We are in the same boat, scrambling to move quickly out of state, as our house just sold. Very exciting and overwhelming at the same time!

To me Kansas feels like the back of nowhere. I had an elderly relative in Independence that we visted a few times when I was a kid many many years ago, and I remember being bored on the ride there (from Texas), bored while I was there (there was nothing to do and with this uncle, my behavior had to be beyond exemplary), and bored on the trek back. But what does an 8 year old know? I have a friend who moved to Witchita a few years ago, and she and her husband love it.
Good luck on the move and the new job.Donna
