Freecycling feels good!
I thought I'd start my 28th year on this planet by doing something good. After weeks of trying to get rid of baby stuff that DS has grown out of I put and ad on Freecycle. I offered his bath tub and lots of toys and clothes and was approaced by email by a mom whose teenage daughter is having a baby in November. Immediately I felt good, knowing that someone "needy" would be able to save a penny by using this stuff. Not only will these things be recycled, some of them were used (and very cheap) when we got them. Anyway, just thought I'd share this happy moment in my day. This truely is a win-win situation!

when i first started my "office" job, i had very little business attire. i joined freecycle and saw an ad, someone was offering a full trashbag worth of business attire in MY size!!! (size12-14) and i promptly went and picked it up and was surprised at how large the bag was, and how great the assortment of goodies inside were. it really helped me out and i didnt have to spend a dime.

I love freecycle too
It kind of makes me think about what I had read about the Great Depression....that there was never such a thing as a garage sale....if your neighbor was in need of something & you had it & didn't need it anymore...you gave to them. And yes...it does feel good to give

I have got some awesome stuff on Freecycle. Plus given away lots of things. We got a new washer and dryer a few years ago and gave away our old one. I had probably 100+ emails asking about it! I gave it to a single mom of 4 who used to have to use the laundromat. I used to have to do that too and I only had 2 kids at the time! I can't imagine having to cart 4 kids worth of laundry, so I was glad she could use it.
It (freecycle) also came in quite handy when we were moving. We got rid of tons of stuff. I did porch pickups most of the time, put it out before I went to work and it was gone by the time I got home!Nicole, Mom of 4 ages 6-16~

I've never gotten anything, but you're right about feeling good about giving stuff away. I've given old computers to a teenager trying to learn how to fix them and leftover candles from my wedding to another young bride-to-be. I've also gotten rid of just tons of clutter that we weren't using anymore.
Most of my excess baby stuff I have given away personally to friends (including online ones!) but if I didn't know people personally, I'd freecycle it.Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

Hey Sara! That's GREAT!
I just learned how to use freecycle and craigslist, too! Started last week. It's so simple! I was surprised and pleased! I'm lovin' getting our house "cleaned out" and helping others in the process! (And not just dumping it in a landfill)...

This was my problem, I didn't know ANYONE in real life or online who was going to have babies anytime soon. So Freecycle was the best option.

I'm still about to list a like new baby swing, pack n play and maybe our snugride carseat as well. We also have some speaker stands and a bunch of clothes that need to go. I cannot wait for the cleared space, clutter is my enemy #1. The less stuff I have, the better I feel. And I prefer DS playing with wooden toys and ones that don't make noise when you press a button (what on earth can you learn with a toy like that??) so we were happy to see all those plastic toys go.

Freecycle is great. I have also used the free section on Craig's List. Have given away lots of stuff and received some as well. Isn't it great that technology can make the old idea of sharing with your neighbors much more workable.

We recently bought my dd a loft bed and took her old twin bed to the garage awaiting a yard sale. One of my husband's soldiers just moved here and I found out their four year old was sleeping on an air mattress so I immediately had my hubby load the bed up and take it (along with a ton of food we wouldn't use) to the family. My son later exclaimed "but we could make money off that bed at the yard sale!" and I explained to him that I would rather give it to someone who really needed it than make a few bucks off of it. My son gave me a hug and said "that's really cool mom" I felt really good.
Great job on helping the teenager (and her mother) out. Too often people any more just expect handouts...but to help someone truely in need sure can make your heart swell! Well done!

A friend of ours gave us a friend when we were pregnant with Wesley. *He thought he had a baby but didn't long story* Now that Zac is gone, this friend is mowing our lawn and mailing packages for us for free (he works for ups). He and his wife are expecting their first. We are giving the crib back along with a trashbag and a huge huge rubbermaid tote full of clothes, two swings, a playpen, a highchair, an exesaucer, and two bouncies. It makes my heart feel good.

I recently joined Freecycle and agree 100% with you!
I have yet to receive anything....only because I really have not needed anything. However it was soooo nice to give those fairly new sandals to a new mom who needed them to wear to a wedding, a bunch of my grandsons stuff he outgrew to a new mom, and then I had a box of 30+ VHS movies that I had no idea what to do with, including several kids videos....then saw a posting for a woman who cut cable & wanted videos for her new grandson....& they were what she was looking for. I guess it was meant to be!! Really is a nice feeling knowing your pre-loved stuff is going to someone who can use it, and not into a landfill."The average pencil is seven inches long, with just a half-inch eraser - in case you thought optimism was dead." ~Robert Brault

I love freecycle! I was just able to get a baby bouncer off ours this week. We don't have anything from the previous kids because we gave it all away before we went overseas last year, so we're starting from scratch. Freecycle is definitely saving us money that we don't have! I'm hoping to get a nice pack 'n' play off it to use as a bed since we'll be on the road so much this year. Hopefully something pops up in the next couple months.

What a sweet thing for you to do. Freecycle is a great organization. I have several items to put on in the next week or so. I just have to get it all together and post it. It is so much easier to freecycle than to go through the hassle of a garage sale.
