Trying something new
I know a lot of people have posted that they have gotten rid of there cable well I know that we can't do that dh wouldn't have it and that is ok. So I want to try to not watch tv during the day except for noon news. I am hoping by doing this I can get more things done around here. I do record some shows that I can watch later in the afternoon. I fast forward thru the commercials and also thru parts of the show that I could careless about.
So how many of you watch less tv? I am trying to do it I would love to go without tv for a few days but don't think that I can do that since I like Big Brother so I am going to try to limit my tv to about 3 hours (1 hours in the day and 2 in the evening that includes noon news and evening news). I am bad about having the tv on for noise and then watching something that is on.
I am a avivid reader so hoping to do more of that and also getting things done around here.
So how many of you want to join me? I think that I can do it I know that I could not give up my computer but I am also going to try to be on it less and not turn it on until the evening either and maybe spend about an hour then on it and that is all.
We are trying to live better and spend more time together so hoping this will help some.

Good for you! Years ago I was getting free cable at my apartment while I was still with my ex. Then I moved and we couldn't afford cable. When we moved back to the old apartment, the cable was on for a few months, and then it got cut off. We never knew why (it wasn't included in the cost of our rent, so it's always remained a mystery). Anyway, by the time it had gotten cut, my ex and I, who had been addicted to TV beforehand, had been without TV for over a year. So we adapted pretty well. We couldn't get any reception with antennas, and couldn't afford cable or satellite. So we just didn't watch television. We sometimes put movies on for background noise, but often the television just stayed off.
Now with
we agreed that the cost of cable is just not something we feel is necessary right now. He'd only watch the cooking channels and I'd only watch the law dramas and fitness shows, so it wasn't worth it to us to pay for television, since we'd have to pay a ton of money to watch two specific channels.
So, the TV remains off here 90% of the time. Occasionally we watch a movie, or we'll download something on the computer, but for the most part we find our entertainment in the internet or another activity. If you're interested in frugal living, minimalism and and

I only watch a couple of shows, otherwise I don't watch any tv. But, don't take my computer away!

The only time I watch tv is on the weekend and then that's usually just at night, and it's mostly Hgtv or some other decorating show. Dh on the other hand has the tv on even when he's not watching it.

The T.V. here is on all the time. I have gotten better about not having it on during the afternoon but I like it for the noise.

We have a really bad TV habit here, too. It's on all the time, and mostly to kids stuff during the day. The kids don't sit in front of it all day, but it's still on anyway. One thing that has really worked for us is putting music on instead. Then we still have the noise that we're used to, but we're not being couch potatoes!

Well doing good so far today. I did watch some this morning but can't expect me to go cold turkey. But I did get hte familyroom deep cleaned and some laundry done and sweeping all of downstairs and 1/2 of the livingroom deep cleaned and a list of things I need to go out and get when dh gets back from helping a friend move somethings.
So over all so far so good!! I know that I will watch some tv later on tonight and I will watch the things that I recorded before I goto bed tonight but I can fast forward thru all the stuff I don't want to watch which takes things done a lot. And I haven't been on the computer a lot today either so that is great.
I really am trying to do better about some of this and I did finish my book from the library today which I will need to take back shortly. I was almost done with it anyways I think I had about 5 or 6 chapters left to go.
But I know that we could not go without cable at all. I like to watch certain things Big Brother, Las Vegas and Jericho and I also like Crimanal Minds. But over all I am trying to not watch as much. I do like HGTV to and trying to cut that out also to a few shows a day.

My Dh and I have been trying to cut back on TV, too... We watch the news at night... Moreso than cutting out the veg-time...it's not watching the trash that's on TV now (the commercials are even bad!). We watch DVDs instead...when we do have it on. We used to have it on from the time we got home until bedtime... Now we watch the 6pm news and maybe 1-2 hours...while doing other things. Then, off it goes. Has cut the electric bill a teeny bit, too.
Sounds like you're doing a great job! Keep it up! You'll see your productivity skyrocket!

I only watch about 3 hours of TV a week, normally. Sometimes we will rent a movie on the weekends. I am more addicted to the computer than the TV. Good luck!

Well today went pretty well if I don't say so myself. I did watch a little more tv then I wanted to but I think over all I did great. I finished getting downstairs deep cleaned and also finished my book. So Tuesday I can start on upstairs and getting that deep cleaned and then cleaning all the carpets. YEAH!!! It feels great to have so much stuff done and the house looks great. Dh even said something today. He did a lot to fixed the fence, helped a friend move somethings around, painted the gold parts of the fireplace nickel (we have nothing else in the house gold so wanted to change that) and also put up the new light in the familyroom. I also watered all my flowers (it is so hot here that they needed a drink).
So tom I plan to work some more on my deep clean and relax. But over all I am happy with myself.
