    Default Who owns a gun?

Ever since I've known DH he has been totally against being a gun owner. 6 months ago he got a bug up his butt and informed me he wanted to buy a pistol. So about two months ago we went out and registered for our FOID cards. And last week we went out and bought a 9mm. I'm a little freaked. I've never shot a pistol (the closest I've come is shooting BB and pellet guns as a kid) and I'm really nervous. We plan on going to a gun range soon and practicing. I told DH I want one of my brothers with us for the first time as they have both been gun owners for over 20 years and know what they are doing.

Am I just being a wimp?

I hate guns, but dh has a 45. I have never shot one and never want to. When he got back from Iraq, he went and got a permit and to carry and also went and bought the gun.

Wanted to add....what I find strange is that you have to go through a background check etc, to buy a gun. But once you get your FOID card it is sooo easy to just go out and buy one. Then after the 72 hour waiting period they just hand it over to you. They don't ask if you've ever had any training, if you know how to use it, etc.... In my opinion..a training & safety course should be mandatory for all first time gun owners.

We don't have a gun at the moment, besides 3 airsoft bb guns but in 6 months I see one coming into the home, seeing as DH is joining the police department. Haha.

I don't mind guns but I've never been around one except for DH's unloaded M16 before a deployment and even that looks like a toy gun.

DH said he will teach me to fire it, at a firing range and we both agree on how we will teach our kids gun safety and how it will be stored (unloaded with ammo in a separate place).

We have lots of guns. I myself have a 357 magnum. They are all locked up, unloaded.

I would never ever have a gun in my house (and DH knows and respects this). If we needed one for self protection, we would get one that isn't LETHAL. There are many alternatives to a gun if you're worried about the safety of your family, IMHO it is more dangerous to have that gun around, unloaded or not.

I grew up around guns so they really don't bother me. I have kids in the house and don't think they are safe around kids. Plus I am to lazy to go out and get a permet and buy one and keep it locked up.

Same here. Along with my 357 magnum, I also have a 410, 22 and a double barrel shotgun. DH has his own 357 and at least 12 other guns and rifles. All are kept in a secure gun cabinet and unloaded. Many times DH is at work and I've had to kill a rattlesnake or cottonmouth in the yard or a wild hog. We sometimes have gators and otters come into our ponds to eat our fish, and when we had chickens, possums would be a big problem, especially on a rainy night.

I have a 22 rifle and DH has some other handguns and shotguns and rifles (I don't really know what he has, deer rifles, bird shotguns, ect..he is a hunter). I have mine mainly for snakes and other varmints but if someone was breaking in my home I would not be afraid to use one of them to protect myself.

DH has several. They are locked in a gunsafe. They do not interest me. As a child ,my father and grandfather took me along to the target range and I loved to shoot with them.

We have guns in our home. We have 2 rifles and a pistol. The rifles are used for hunting season and DH was given the pistol when his dad passed away. The pistol belonged to DH's dad. All of our guns are locked up in a gun cabinet and are kept unloaded.

We are gun nuts at our place! Alaska has THE BEST laws for guns...we respect the "right to bear arms" - no permits here...and no waiting period. That would bug me...but, I guess it's all what you're used to...

We have quite the variety of guns... Grew up shooting so guns don't bother me. We keep them loaded (no kids around - and safety on). If an intruder comes I want the ability to protect myself. I am thankful to live in a country where we have this right.

We do not have any guns. Both DH and I agree they are not for us.

I don't think you're being a wimp at all. We don't own any guns - I've never shot or even held a gun, and I see no need to.
