I hate customer service reps
I called to cancel a service we were paying for but not using. I called this same company last month and they gave me a free month and said call next month if you still don't want the service. Ok, so I called because I still don't want the service. The customer service rep tried to convince me to kepp the service and he would give me another free month. He said call next month and cancel if you do not want the service. I said NO!! Just cancel the service so I don't have to keep calling. I don't want a free month; I just want it cancelled!! How hard it is that?? I hate when they try to sell you on keeping something you really don't want!!
I also hate those stupid telemarketers that call even when you have your number on the do not call list!! I had to tell one that repeatedly calls me that I am on the do not call list and if they call again I would report them. They finally stopped calling!! If I wanted to purchase something, I would call them!!
Ok, I will step down off my soap box now!!~*Michelle*~

yep, agreed!
I will say: I'm sure that is a difficult job - and I try to be pleasant - but for pete's sake, when I say NO, just say 'thank you for your time' and hang up! I hate it when they try to keep you on the phone - so I have no choice but to hang up on them!Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die

It drives me up the wall...I wish they'd just make it illegal. What bothers me is - even if you're on the do-not-call registry people from charities and such can call you. I know they have needs and they're trying to help others...but if I had any money to donate I already know what organizations I'd donate to.
I actually had a policeman call collecting for a statue or monument or something...wanting a $50 donation. It was a very lean time for us... I told him nicely that we didn't have any extra money...that we didn't even have a whole $50/week for groceries. He pushed and pushed and pushed (I couldn't bring myself to hang up on a policeman...I try to have strong respect for our police and military). I finally blurted out "so you want me to go hungry for over a week just so you can have a statue?!?!".
(This was after about FIVE FULL minutes of his pushing...on the SECOND call!!). He didn't even give up after that... He wanted to know when I WOULD be able to afford to donate to their statue!! I told him after we graduated and paid off all the student loans...YEARS. I was totally annoyed by then. It's none of his business to whom...or when...we donate. Seemed SO pushy!!
I'd rather give food to hungry people than build another statue (but that's just my personal view).
Anyway...I wish it was totally illegal...

it's even more fun when it's a service you use and they keep calling to get you to up grade. nothing like arguing with a lady for 20 minutes about why you don't want to change you plan and about wanting to be off the list. she was nuts enough to tell me that if she took me off the list they couldn't call for 10 years. GOOD that's what i want. if i want to change i'll call you. now mind you this 20 minute arguement was after 6 weeks of being called every other or every 3rd day about upgrading our plan and me telling them numerous times to put me on the do not call list. i had a funny feeling about her so even though the last thing i said to her was put me on teh do not call list, i called back later and told the guy that answered that if he wanted to he could transfer me to a supervisor right then because i was going to be doing some big complaining. explained what had been happening and asked if she put me on the list. well wouldn't ya know she didn't. rotten little goober. he was nice and took care of it for me and took my complaint. ugh i hate ppl calling about stuff like that.

yes definately try to remember that it is their job and if they are being friendly while they are doing it then they are doing it well! They are probably being recorded and if they dont say those things they won't keep their job! So...hate the company not the employee!! Unless of course they are rude on top of it ..

I used to work for a bank in PA, and we had "call nights" when we HAD to stay until 7pm just to make cold calls. If we didn't get so many in a month, we got written up, and after 3 write ups got fired. I always seemed to make my quota, but let me tell you every last one of us HATED IT! If I wanted to work sales, I would. I couldn't wait to move so I could quit that job!

I usually cut them off up front,"I'm not interested, please do not call again."DH will let them do their whole speech before he declines, what do you know -they call with a salespitch and are asking to speak to him. What a pain.

AOL used to be the same way, you can not cancel without having to go through the "let us give you a free month, ect.." speil. I tried cancelling with them one time to save money and ended up with several free months before I finally got them to canel it all together. I have it now because I have broadband via another provider and use the free AOL now. I am one of the weird people that really likes AOL's browser.

I wonder if they give you the free month so that incase you forget to call back and cancel they can start charging you again.

i hate that too. my DH is always patient and lets them talk and talk talk he'll be on the phone forever.....the problem is he is easily convinced and sometimes ends up with things he didn't mean to ok. I usually try and let them through the initial spiel then i politely say no and hang up.

This doesn't work when you are initiating the call, like to cancel something, but ti works great on telemarketers. I tell them right up front that I will give them NO information that they are unwilling to give me. Then I ask for their full name and how do they spell it. (that usually gets a pause) Then I ask whether they'd prefer to give me thier birthdate, mother's maiden name, or credit card number first. They usually go away.
