Default So... Here's What I'll Be Doing For the Next Few Months

and I really want that apartment that we looked at on Tuesday. We haven't been approved for it yet, but I have a really good feeling about it. Even if we don't get it, we need to get one over by his school regardless, so whether it's this one or another one, we're planning on getting ready to get out of our current apartment come Aug. 31st.

    So, here's our plan:

Step 1: We're going to put out ads for subletters first off. However, our location is really far out of the way. So I don't think we're likely to find a subletter. So, we're going to pretend we don't get a subletter.

Step 2: We're going to give our landlords 30 days notice. We're going to say that we'll be out of there by the end of August, and we'll either have a subletter by then, or we'll buy out the two months that we'd have to pay. We don't have to give them notice til the end of July (if we gave them notice today, it wouldn't go into effect until August 1st anyway, so we'll wait til the end of the month), so that gives us time to make sure we have all of our ducks in order before we go ahead with our plans.

Step 3: You think Amy D. was a tightwad?! HA! and I are going to be so blackbelt we'll make her look like Donald Trump! I'm on the phone right now disconnecting the landline phone and internet (though this has a further motive -- the phone company, who has repeatedly screwed us over just sent us two electronic statements -- one saying we've overpaid for $108.00, and the other saying we're three months behind on our bill!!! So I'm just disconnecting from them entirely) as of next week. After that, I'm quitting the gym (gotta pay to get out of that, as I'd be breaking a contract, but I'd have to do it by the end of August anyway, since we won't be living here and I get a free gym membership while I'm going to school, so by doing it now, I save myself about $50), selling off a LOT of items (you name it, it's probably getting sold -- television [which we never use], PS2 [which we only use to watch DVDs and our computer has a DVD player], spare bed [which we never have compnay for], my old wedding dress, engagement ring and wedding band [not like I'm ever going to wear them again], and plenty of other stuff, all of which we'd have to get rid of anyway so we can downgrade to a smaller apartment, so we might as well make some money off of it) and start getting strict on food, entertainment, purchases, electricity use, etc. All these things will benefit us in the end -- we'll have more time and money to focus on the important things, like packing and moving and getting ready for school. And even if, by chance, we do manage to snag a subletter, it just means we'll have more money to work with when the time comes.

So, what that means is, I'll not have daily access to my Village for a while. I'm really gonna miss everyone. I will have access to the net at Job 2, but it's not going to be the same. But, it will give me plenty of time to focus on what is and isn't important around me, without the added distraction of the internet.

I also plan to keep a journal that I can post when we're all settled and figured out. That way you'll all know what's been going on in this sudden whirlwind we've been experiencing.

Anyway, I gotta get going to my gym and get that settled -- if I get it done today, I don't have to worry about paying my next membership payment!

Don't pay them for the other 2 months upfront, no matter what they are telling you. If they rent that apartment after you leave, they can not legally take your money as well - but you will never get it back from them. The only way you owe them for those two months is if the apartment sits empty for the entire time.

It does sound like a workable plan. I hope everything works out for the two of you. We'll miss hearing from you daily, but hopefully it will only be for a short while. Take care!!
