Ugh - the funky toilet
UGH! Whomever sent Murphy to Canada must help me banish him to the island of untolerable ex's and inlaws!!!!

Now when we moved here bout 7 yrs ago the toilet flushed fine for at least the first 4 years I've lived here. Back in 2003 there was a clog in the pipeline/drain to the sewer system? The city came and dug up our driveway, the sidewalk, the road to access the water main and determined that the problem was on their end. A tree root had entered the pipe and started to block it.
In the past 3-4 years the toilet flushing has been getting slower and slower and less powerful if you may with an occasional clog here and there. We plunged, it went away.
Within the past year alone - I have been getting a clogged toilet 2-4 times/wk but plunging seems to have been working. But last wk and this wk have been unbearable. Plunging didnt work. I went out and bought a 'One Second Plumber' which uses a gas that when mixed with water, expands and forces the clog to open and gets rid of it. Numerous people have told me about this and how well it works. Not for me.
I went and spent the $20 for it this wk and went to use it this am and nothing. Im peeved!!! My dad came down and tried to use it in case I wasnt doing it properly and then we both plunged for 10 mins each and still nothing.
Finally the toilet will flush - very slowly. Doesnt take anything with it and now every 3rd flush it will fill the bowl almost to the rim. Im crying for a new toilet but then again it may be the tree in the pipe all over again.
For now I have to use my dads toilet upstairs - Im not going to remember that in the middle of the night!!! But if the fountain spouts from my shower drain I'll be the first to be calling the city to come look again.
Ugh!! I just wanted to stay home and clean house today! Murphy, why are you doing this to me? Kindly take the ghost with you when you leave please!!!2012: The Year Of The Purge!

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!! Ok, thank you for that unexpected coffee out my nose~~~ LOLOL!!
I agree tho, well *hit!!
I'm betting it's roots again, or something further out, but not the toilet itself.

Ugh, I can feel for you. Have you tried something like Root-X on a regular basis? You might have to have it roto-rooted first

I have trees (oaks) close to my house, and when we pulled the toilet up to replace the seal, there were roots growing up into the bottom of the toilet from the pipe!
I used copper sulfate to kill the roots. You can get it at Home Depot. Just pour it into your commode, and flush SLOWLY...like don't completely flush, just let the water run into the bowl slowly until it washes it slowly down into the pipe, where it sits and kills the roots.
Worked like a dream. No more clogged toilets! Now I use it about once a year.

I've had pretty good luck with dishwasher detergent. Don't know if it works on roots specifically.

Shorty,
My Dh is a plumber. After reading what you are going through, I ran it past him. He said it IS probably a root ball or a root that has grown through your sewer line, and to not spend any more money on liquid stuff. It's a waste of money. You need a drain cleaner to come out and use a 'snake' to chew up the root ball or root that has invaded the sewer line. (The snake is a drain machine with a cable that has a blade on the end to chew up any solid or soft matter trapped in the drain line.) It may cost a little bit right now, but it will be well worth it in the long run. Good Luck! If Dh was closer to you I'd let you borrow him! LOL
