Working from home anyone?
i was trying to think of ways to make some extra cash and i've heard of people working from home by phone. i work in retail, so my schedule every week is completely different than the week before, so i can't get a second job i have to actually be at. i thought it'd be good to work from home where i can set my own schedule and things like that.
has anyone done this before? i googled it and got this site (not sure if i'm allowed to post it, so i won't til i know it's okay) that listed lots of companies that need employees working from home. however, i'm not sure if they're legit or even worth my time.
any feedback's appreciated!

I work from home but doing web design/web updates when needed. There are alot of things you can do from home such as data entry, customer service, order taking, etc... I am sure some ladies here do this already so they can help you out more.

I do mystery shopping. I have done it for about 12 years. You don't get rich, but the extra $ is fun to have. I have made over 3000.00 (cash and "stuff") so far this year......and it's fun! www.volition.com to get started and information. My tip: never, ever EVER pay anyone to mystery shop!

Okay, here's the info from Woman's Day.
One idea is to be a customer service rep (answering the phone, etc, from home). They say that the typical hourly rate is about $9, but Alpine Access agents can earn up to $20/hr with incentives and bonuses. Here's the list of companies that hire customer service reps:
- alpineaccess.com
- LiveOps.com
- Arise.com
- WestatHome.com
- WorkingSolutions.com
- RepsforRent.com
- ACCDDirect.com
They also mention being an "expert guide", writing articles about the subjects of your expertise. About.com guides earn "no less than $725 a month" and "some make more than $100,000 a year". Hmmm... that sounds too good to be true, but that's what the article says. Anyway, they list:
- beaguide.about.com
- chacha.com
You can also try being a virtual assistant (making travel arrangements, event planning, etc). The rates can run about $25 to $75/hour, depending upon the type of services you provide. There are startup costs of about $500 to $1000, you must have a computer and printer. Check out:
- teamdoubleclick.com
- virtualassistantjobs.com
Be an online tutor, if you have a college degree and the skills to tutor students in science, English, math, or social studies. You can earn $10-$14/hr. Go to:
- tutor.com
If you're a registered nurse, you can become a nurse on call:
- fonemed.com
Become a telemarketer. (Not a fun job, I'm thinking...) Check out:
- West.com
- Intrep.com
- Telereach.com
Companies are looking for people to sit on mock juries to give attorneys and jury consultants feedback on cases they're handling. Fees range from $5 to $50. Go to:
- ejury.com
- onlineverdict.com
Hope that helps!

I have worked for Alpine and I have never seen a $20 an hour job...they are almost all $9. Training generally is $7.

Sari, I replied to your PM, but just to let everyone else know I am a work-at-home medical transcriptionist. You do have to go to school, and there are only two schools that are good enough to land a job. The best advice I can give is to spend a significant amount of time reading at mtchat.com. There's an unbelievable amount of information on the boards there, and some of the most influential people in the field are active posters.

I've been doing this a couple of months and I'm really happy with my decision! I don't have to do any parties or keep inventory. Which I love. Really all I do is set up memberships. EASY!
