New. Lost home-Need motivation.
I am really happy to have found Frugal Village. I have been looking for something to motivate myself. I am 57. I had been living & teaching in Louisiana, but after Katrina sold my home and left. I have come back to Massachusetts and can't afford any of the homes. I've been on sabbatical from teaching, but it is time to get going and I can't seem to make the first steps. I have this feeling that since I have lost 2 homes to water damage - one in LA and one here in Mass., that there's no reason to start again as I end up losing everything. Any help appreciated.

I am so sorry about your situation. Why don't you try here in Louisville? We have affordable housing, there are usually teaching jobs available and the weather is decent. The people in general are friendly and the area I am in is still Southern. Good luck to you hun and let me know if you need anything!

Florida would hire you in a heart beat. We need good teachers. OF course I cant promise you wont get any hurricans.
Im so sorry that you have been effected not once but twice. I would suggest you rent an apartment on the top floor.
You have come to the right place.

I agree about Louisville. I am from there and even though I wouldn't move back to save my life, there are TONS of teaching positions and so many schools. And the housing is quite affordable, depending on where you go. The only reason I wouldn't move back is because I like it out here about 35 miles away in my town, which isn't so big and bustling. I seem to adapt better to halfass country life better than I did there. But I lived there for 23 years, so there must be something decent there...lol I just don't like the crowds of the city anymore. Most people I know love living there and don't have trouble finding jobs.

Welcome to the Village! I'm betting good stuff is right around the corner for you, just need to do some finageling. Up for an adventure?

Welcome to FV! I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck with housing. Because Massachusetts is so expensive, have you though about moving to a new, less expensive area? Teachers are needed everywhere so I'm sure you wouldn't have any trouble finding a job.

Hi and welcome! I'm in Shreveport, and I certainly can't blame you for wanting to get out of Louisiana! If I lived much farther south, I'd probably not hang around either.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Losing two houses to water is two houses too many in one lifetime. At any rate, you'll get lots of good support here.Donna

I am so sorry that all of this has happened to you. What about North Carolina, they need teachers too, and I think the cost of living is lower. You are in an expensive area to live. North Carolina does get some affects from hurricanes though. Good luck, and let us know what you decide.
