    Default your kids music

I was listening to a talk show on the radio and the moderator was talking about how people try to be like a friend to their children. One thing that he said was that people that say that they like the same music as their children are just lying to themselves. I grew up with the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who and countless others. My kids had bands like Rush, Jefferson Starship, Train and on and on, and I love listening to it. Where would you fit on this topic?
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

i dont have any children but i do have a much younger brother and sister who i probably act like a parent around.

db is 12 and listens to alot of techno and ds is 8 and shes got really great taste. the beatles, she LOVES queen (i have this memory of her in the bathtub screaming the lyrics to bicycle at three yrs old), peter bjorn and john, the cranberries, radiohead, softcell, new order, aha... she loves the eighties. maybe because i do and i always play stuff like that.

they live my dad and step mom, and not that their not good parents, but i think that since this is the second set of kids that they both had (both have older children my age) that theyre kind of... mmm... lazy is the wrong word but you get the picture. they do whatever they want and have no responsibilities around the house. so when they come over to my place, i lay down the law. ie, if you moved it or took it out, put it back. wash your own dishes, shoes go in the shoe corner not just thrown under the table.

If you came on a car trip with us for any distance you would be amazed at the music we listen to. Hailee 17 likes Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, anything Rat pack. She loves musicals so what ever is her latest craze is we listen too. She is into michael buble too. Kristie 15 likes some weird silly music I don't know where she finds some of the songs, But she also likes Beatles and oldies and all the new stuff too. Jaimee 17 loves 80s music. My 8 year old likes Hannah Montana and high school musical and new stuff too. We all listen to the pop stuff too but we have quite a selection in the van. When I listen to their ipods I am amazed at the diversity in the music they like. I think it is nice to share musical interests with your kids. My DD and I recently went to a B52s concert and they were upset that we didn't bring them too! They all love the B52s.

Although I hated the music that my parents listened to, its a totally different story with my kids. I can truthfully say that our kids love the same music that we do. We enjoy Christian rock and the heavy metal from the 80's....before the grundge/anger rock came on the scene(no talent there -my opinion). My dd#2 is a guitarist and she swiped my Def Leppard cd's to help her learn to play their music...among the other music form various artists from that time frame. The kids also like music from movie soundtracks and other classical material.

Mine has good taste in music! He likes many kinds, including groups like Queen and the Beachboys that are more from "my youth", and good jazz, and IZ (check that one out if you haven't run into him before!), and some C&W and some christian rock and some classical. On the other hand, he cannot stand my fondness for Barry Manilow and Barbra Streisand - hmph!

That's a wide brush he's painting with...dipping it in some BS

I happen to love a lot of the same music my kids listen to. Not because I'm trying to be anyone's friend...we just happen to enjoy the same music. My kids listen to the 80's "hair bands" I listened to growing up and I listen to a whole lot of the new stuff that's out that they are also listening to.

Case in point. My youngest daughter went to her first concert a couple of weeks ago. Who did she see? Meatloaf. My oldest daughter is going to her first concert in a couple of weeks. She's seeing My Chemical Romance. Her dad & I are going with her because we happen to love their music too.

I like the Eagles, hands down. My mom did too, but she like STIX and I couldn't stand it, Yanni too. Didn't get it. But now,if it came on the radio...if I recognised it, I wouldn't change it. Loved nad still do, hair bands...G&R, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, some country, christian rock, contemporary rock, etc etc.

My kids just like certain songs so far. my oldest is 7 and he likes songs like How Bizarre, by OMC, and stuff by Sugar Ray. a little Sublime too, and one song...uh...what is it something by Uncle Cracker anyhow.

My kids and I both listen to christian rock, and we love it. But I think I influence their music more than they influence mine, they started liking it because it's what I listen to. Also, our rule has always been.....you can listen to any music you want, as long as you wouldn't be embarassed to show your grandma the lyrics.

My dd listens to Hannah Montana, all of the Disney stars. I love it, we even play it in the truck when we go out.
