Default Some people just don't get it....long rant! Part II

Last month I vented about comments from a coworker who spends $ like water and constantly complains has no $ to pay for gas to drive to visit his mom, pay for home maintenance, etc...and then was pricing a big vacation last I knew. We all also overhear him on the phone trying to cover bounced checks, and he is thrilled you can use a cc at Mcdonalds. Whatever. I now just roll my eyes and mind my own business.

Well, he cheesed me off again today. Let it be said due to my title, I know I am higher paid than most of my colleagues, but I recycle and bring my own lunch 90% of the time, and am pretty comfortable with who I am. I am also not preachy at all.

So I am on vacation next week ( happy dance) and he asked what I was doing. I said just puttering around the house, few projects to be done, maybe lunch or a museum. I have been so stressed from work I really just need to rest and unwind. And I am happy puttering around the house.

So Mr. Foolishwithmoney says: C'mon, that's boring. Open the purse strings. Next April we are going for 10 days to MEXICO. Our tax refund should pay for it. Take a real vacation.

I am thinking to myself, yeah, god forbid you payoff that incredible mortgage you keep complaining about or save for heating oil season which you also are always complaining about.

I said : well, I would rather save my $$ and really don't feel like having to work here til I am age 70...but whatever.

This was all said good naturedly as we all joke around alot. Anyway, that shut him up. Oh yeah, yesterday he was complaining about how they were trying to pay $20k on legal fees due to nasty child custody issues wife had with ex. Duh, what the #$@!.
Just hard to feel sorry for someone when they create 1/2 of their own problems. I should not let it get to me, but, whew...I feel better now.
I figured you all could relate!

Yes, definitely can relate to that!

Good reply - not too mean and nasty, but gets the point across.

I can sooo relate to that. I have many coworkers just like him. One in particular drives me nuts, always whining about how she can't pay her mortgage if they don't give her overtime, on and on she complains. Just in the last year though she has taken a trip out of state, gone on a cruise and most recently took her 3 kids to a water park 4 hours away. We live on a freakin' island! If you can't pay your mortgage without overtime why are you taking your kids to a play in water you have to PAY for when there's free water fun everywhere around you???!! The worst part is many of my coworkers feel sorry for her because she's a single mom and has it so hard, yet when I say something is "not in my budget", like the gazillioneth request for a group collection, I don't get understanding, I catch a lot of flack and am just viewed as a selfish cheapskate. Drives me bonkers...

Funny thing is, I am one of those people who says I really do not care what other people think. But then I hear a comment like that, kind of dissing my humble little vacation plans, and start to wonder: am I missing out on anything?

I have taken a cruise and done the traveling and nice vacation thing, but wonder am I missing out by not taking a splashy fantabulous trip each year? Then I come to FV and breathe a big sigh of relief.

Aww hugs, went through it just last night at work listening to 5 of them gripe about things like their new Wi station breaking, their whatever it is paid radio breaking, HAVING TO HAVE MORE HOURS, and on and on.

And I sat and really looked at them, they all rent, they blow it faster than it comes in and they look down on me. They laugh at me for packing lunch, they scoff at my drinking water. They don't even know me, they have NO clue.

Honestly, blow it off, then sit back and look around you. Isn't it nice to be secure in who you are and where you're going?

One of the earlier low-cost cooking books that I have, from the 20s, deplored the "new" idea that you had to travel on a vacation.

You spend all year working for the money for your home, and you go somewhere else for a vacation?

And I remember when I first read that, it seemed like an odd idea. But since I'd rather work on stuff here because I get the benefit of it right away, why wouldn't I want to stay here?

He'll never get it until he loses it all. Some people are just like that. I had an ex who was like that, the life of the party, always treating people and entertaining, all the while he had to file bankruptcy, and then still lost his house. He's an idiot. He and his current GF are living in a duplex. Glad she has him and not me.

I know one man who has had to file for bankruptcy TWICE! He didn't learn the first time, but he has now. I've been helping him be more frugal.
